How to reuse WinCC runtime database?

dinh tuan Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Dear all, I am a new member of this forum. For the first appearance, I would like to give all my best regards. I am an engineering working on WinCC software to design HMI system and I have a question needs response from you. I have an old WinCC project applied to a power substation. The system has been under runtime condition for 3 years, so the database of the system is too large. When the project is offered to be extended, new information required to be added to the database. There are some reasons for me to restructure the configuration database (including Tag management, Graphics, Alarm Logging, Tag Logging...). I do this job by creating a new project and importing the old Tag management, Pictures, Alarm Logging...and the result of this is that the old runtime database would not been used in the new project and it would make the customers feel unsatisfied. my question is: How to reuse an old runtime database in a new project with old configuration database? The question is applied to both WinCC V5 and WinCC V6. Looking for responses from you soon, thanks and best regards, Nguyen Dinh Tuan

(the WinCC configuration project is itselt the WinCC configuration project at last time the engineer finished setting up the system and left the station) Do you knowthe way (step by step)to reuse runtime databasebut not bases on the old configuration project? Wacky Posts: 60 Rating: (2)	hi, I think it is not prefer to create a new project, since the configuration data may be different with the existing project. It will not work after reloading the oldruntime database. Anyway, it is just my comment and experience. Any one have good suggestions?

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi Nguyen, I think Wacky's suggestion sounds interesting: not creating a new project... to expand a project you don't necessarily need a new project - you could just add what you need to the old one... by using Configuration Tool you could configure the new stuff, and be sure not to have trouble with the database, since this way you'd be sure, for instance, that your alarms would still have the same number... In my work,in some casesI can not use the old project and have to create a new project, I can do something with the new project for keep the old configuration such as: import tags, alarms, measurement values in tag logging, copy actions & functions in global scripts... from the old project to the new one. But could not reuse the runtime database of the old project. best regards, Tuan
