In S7-1200, I am reading a value as '$03' from my equipment and that's the serial number which I want to show on HMI TP700. When I tried to show the value as string in HMI, it shows the square box instead.

Could anybody please help me how to show $ sign in HMI?

Or Is there anyway I could eliminate $ sign and put - (dash) instead?

It would be useful to know what a data type this '$30' is. Some screenshot showing it in online view would be useful as well.

In general string editing functions should be used to alter a string to requirements.

The original topic where you posted on already stated how to get the dollar sign in a string: '$$'. What is of bigger concern is why the '$03' special character is rearing its ugly head.

What type of processing is takes place between the value received from the "equipment" and the HMI receiving a STRING. We could possibly assist more if we knew more. Some coding and sample data may be helpful.

Mention also the specifics of your S7-1200 and the software version.
