How to temporarily disable a button to avoid successive press actions

Bob76 Posts: 11 Rating: (1)	Hi all, i got TIA Portal V11 SP1 with Step 7 and WinCC Basic, PLC S7 1200 and HMI KTP 600. I've built a simple page with a button connected to a PLC Merker, that controls PLC Q0.1 Output. What i need is to disable the button after user press for some seconds it just to avoid that someone can suddenlyturn off again the turned on system. The user can be able to act on button again after. Thanks in advance. MR

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Expert Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 1/24/2025 Posts: 4397 Rating: (1464)	Hi, General suggestion for HMI/PLC communication: HMI set memory bits on PLC -> PLC work with this information (set outputs in your case) -> after "acknowled" it, the PLC reset the setted memory bits.

You can make button1 invisible if button 2 is on. This prevents bad situations. You can also use a state machine inside the plc to accept the first press of the button to enter the 'on' state and ignore future presses of that button for some amount of time. Having the extra logic in the plc makes it more difficult because of the need to initialize the state machine, reset it properly, and handle fault situations. It is easy to set it up, but over time, more difficult to recall what is going on when changes are needed later. The invisible option is simple to understand. No button, no action allowed.
