How to upload a complete PLC in TIA v12 SP1

In the manual it is described as this: 1. Select the project name in the project tree 2. In the online menu select "upload decice to PG/PC" 3. Select the interface 4. Select device 5. Push upload. I'm trying this with a S7 CPU315 PN/DP v3.2 (6ES7 315-2EH14-0AB0). Tried it both in "run" and "stop". The software and hardware was created by same version of TIA. I created the PLC in a project, downloaded everything, put the CPU in run to check it's ok. Made a new project and try to upload it again. But I get the messages: "The selected object PLC_300 [10.0.0.112] cannot be uploaded from the device. Action canceled before upload from device." Any thoughts?

Hello ThaKibosh, If am not wrong the complete upload functionality (device configuration + program blocks ) for PLC is applicable for S7-1200 and S7-1500. (even for S7-1200 and S7-1500 - the cpu / module parameters are not uploaded only the device is detected by TIA Portal). For S7-300 upload of hardware / device configurataion may not be possible whereas the program blocks upload should be possible. Though am not 100% sure about it.

Same message: Backup not possible. So in other words: It is not possible to take a backup from a running PLC before you do any changes then? Nice One! PS: a colleague tried it also with the same result. EDIT: I just found out that you can take a backup from a S7-300. Right click on the PLC folder and select "backup from online device". TIA will then take a backup from the software and hardware and place it under "online backups" in the project tree. But this backup is not accessible for example to check some values in a DB. This does not work for a S7-1200.

This does not work for a S7-1200. Hello ThaKibosh, It is very well possible to detect hardware list of S7-1200 and S7-1500 using a unspecified CPU option. Am not sure of this possibility for S7-300 and S7-400 systems. Check this out for the procedure to upload program blocks - How do you load the project data from the CPU into the programming device in STEP 7 (TIA Portal)? Online Backups are applicable only for S7-300 / S7-400, not for S7-1200 / S7-1500. Here the complete HW config + blocks are stored as binary code (the code can't be opened using TIA Portal) and also it can be restored to the S7-300 / S7-400.

So conclusion for TIA Step 7 Professional v12 SP1 is then: Complete upload SW & HW S7-1200 and S7-1500 = Yes For S7-300 and S7-400 = No (only SW, no HW). Note! You can take a online backup from a S7-300 & S7-400 as a file, but this file can not be edited, nor checked. Thx for the help.

I have tried everything to upload just the software from both an S7-1200 and an S7-300 to TIA V12 SP1 Up3 and get the exact same error message as you mention in your first post. Regardless of if the PLC is in RUN or STOP. Project was downloaded to both PLC's using the exact same version of TIA (V12 SP1 Up3). Hardware detection for S7-1200 works fine. I tried using the drag and drop method as well, dragging the blocks from online access to the detected CPU. It won't let me drop the blocks into my project. Thanks.
