I am working with a PLC S7-1200, CPU 1214C DC/DC/DC . I want to read both count and frequency in the same High Speed Input. The configuration that I need is the following:

• Operating phase: Single phase.
• Counting direction: Digital Input (external direction control).
• Reset: Tag defined in the user program.

The thing is that I need exactly 6 HSC reading both count and frequency. Therefore, it is not possible for me to use 2 HSC for one encoder (one for count and the other for frequency).

My question is if this is possible to read both count and frequency in the same High Speed Input?

If not, I know I would need a ET200 and counter cards. In that case, What are the models of the ET200 and counter card that are compatible with a S7-1200.

Hello.

Yes counting and frequency is possible ->
1. Configure the HSC for counting
2. Write a user program to calculate the frequency

The user program will do what the HSC in "frequency" mode would do. A (very exact) timer runs in the background. Pulses that are counted within this timer run is the frequency.

A time cycle interrupt timer is the best to use for this solution IMO.

Please consider to specify the PLC version and software version if you have follow-up commentary.
