How to use I/O of FM352-5 without S7 CPU in (i.e. thru Profibus)

user2 Posts: 11 Rating: (1)	Hi, The manual of FM352-5 counter module explained that the App_FB declararion has assignments for the physicalI/O of the module in the first 2 bytes of each of the total 16 bytes-in & 16 bytes-outcommunication interface..but in chapter 9, whenoperating the module through profibus (without S7 CPU), it says that the first 2 bytes are for control, status and reserved bits only, and says the remaining 14 bytes are "Free-form" inputs & outputs. In this case, how can I use the physical I/O of the module in the program? For ex, in a ladder network, if I want to use an input as the trigger of a counter, or as the activator of an output of the module... how to do that? I believe the module doesn't use the same STEP7 style (Ix.x, Qy,y)? Please explain... Thanks

This is on page 9-4 and further. In table 9-1 the first two bytes for in- and output are reserved, the other bytes 2..15 are for the in- and output free, so you may use them. The only restriction is where the addresses of the FM352-5 started, if this is in the PII/PIQ then you may use I x.y and Q x.y. [:P] When they are not in the PII/PIQ you can use only as smallest amount a byte, so L x / T x. [;)] Then you have to put some booleans togehter in your software. Also by the input bytes you may read in bytes / words / double words. If you need consistent data it might be needed to get a hole block with SFC14/SFC15 (i didn't check if this is possible[:blush:] ). I hope that this is the information that you are searching for. user2 Posts: 11 Rating: (1)	Hi Late, Thanks for the info. My problem was solved after a phone & a couple of E-mails with Siemens support. I was confused because I thought the two bytes containing the physical digital I/O of the module are located before the 14-byte interface with the CPU (PFB master in my case). With non-S7 CPU case, the first two bytes are used for control & status. The answer was that these two I/O bytes (in the declaration table) and the two bytes of control & status are two different things. I.e., declare the digital I/O in FB3 as explained in the manual, and these I/Os will be only used in the program of FM-352-5. The CPU (PFB master) can't read or set these I/Os directly. Of course, if there is a need to deal with these I/Os from the CPU (PFB master), then you can access them through a bit in the 14-bytes interface. Thanks, HOS.
