It is rather generic questions but i believe worth asking.

What is you algorithm to solve problems when working with wincc professional for example TIA18?

What steps would you take - sample brainstorm below

1. Check if I use the latest service pack and updates ?
2. Have i restarted computer at least once and problem persists?
3. Do i have enough resources ?
4. Do i have script and screen debugger switched on - is standard microsoft debugger still working in the professional - it used to work in wincc 7.4 classic
5. Have i checked the log files - where are they and which are typically used? They could be cleared for checked fresh issues.
6. In wincc classic there was a tool for collecting system and wincc diagnostic before sending to siemens support- is it still used for winc professional?
7. Has checking wincc events been done which would coincide with the issues.
8. Have a build a dummy and fresh project to isolate functionality which is causing the problem to make sure the issue is not coming from the other part of the project?
9. If wincc is frozen - is there anything you would do - close simulator to free resorces, give higher priority to the process etc. Would you use reset wincc if you are not allowed to restart the server?
10. HMI runtime traces could be used to isolate the problem and logged to the file or traces window.
11. Messageboxes could be used to show the value - but they stop the thread so it needs to be remembered

Anything else you practically use?

any dangers deleting that folder? - should backup be taken first?

Hi,

one point at that:

Delete IM-Folder in your project-folder on ES and recompile your Project! (this can fix some behaviors, too)

IN the IM folder there are stored all generated RUntime tdata and also some other data for example serach index and so on. Everything will be generated by TIA new:

But there are so many possible real problems or even normal behaviour that you would see as a problem that you cannot give a general troubleshooting guide
