how we can enjoy when we read and manipulate s5 program

In both cases (Step5/7) is possible to use switching language options (STL/LAD/FB) and depends which one more "friendly and understandable" for you. Of course sometime is not possible to "escape" from STL. Another point is almost always is difficult to understand the logic written by someone else. Last point is concerning Step5, is possible to use another software (PG2000) which have more friendly interface which is compared with Step7. KEEP PROGRAMMING! Best regards, Hristo Mihalev

MM1234 Posts: 270 Rating: (53)	Hello hazem, the best way to enjoy reading and working with any code (mostly code of other people, but also yours, after a period of not working right with it) is to have a decent manners while creating the code. I don't know if I am a minor here, but for me it's kinda other way around, as I am a programmer by education (and soul, maybe, haha) and I LAD is not good for me, FBD sometimes, but I prefer to use STL. I always liked programming in assembler and even though it might be challenging, it's fun. Anyway, to what I ment about the manners. Firstly, some structure - when you use the direct STL programming for blocks in Step 7, it does some of thatfor you, but when you program in the sourcecode files, try to organize stuff so it ain't all one big wall of text, so you can distinguish between cycle calls/ends and the instructions inside of it and such. Additionaly, what really helps, is a good use of comments. Now, this is not an easy thing and for programming in some high level languages, it might sometimes not be as necessary(what I mean is, that sometimes you can write a code in a way that it comments itself), in assembler it pretty much is. You don't have to comment every line or every instruction, but take the time and before every bigger part of code (i.e. for cycle with several instructions in it), comment on the reasons for this, on the inputs/outputs, what will happen after it's done, how many iterations it should have, depending on what variable etc. I don't know if you've heard of test drive programming, which is approach where you write tests for your code first and then do the code itself, based on the tests. Well, some use something a bit similar, sort of a comment driven programming. Point is to think first about what you need to do and write that in a comment. Once you are done with thinking and writing/explaining, it is a piece of cake to write the code. Which brings me to the last thing, possible easier creation of the code. I don't know if you handle some higher level language, or have some basics of that at least. There is a thing that is called pseudocode used in programmers. It's point is to express the algorithm/approach without having problems of compatibility between languages - because the approach/algorithm is always the same, just the syntax is different. If you are able to express some parts of your code in pseudocode, or at least some sort of a structure of for-while cycles, if-else conditions etc., then these can be always by some rulesu converted into assembler code. Example would be a for cycle, which is used with the label and LOOP instruction. There is many books written on how to code in pretty much any high level language, many books also on the standards of "syntax", "documentation" and anything else. In the end, as long as you work for yourself, you can do it however you want, as long as it works for you and you ain't required to produce the output in some prescribed form. However, it's always good to think of some unified way to do things, some methodics for case you will have to hand your work to someone else or even cooperate with others and then, why not to have those based on some more widely used stuff. Anyway, last thing I want to say, try not running from STL, give it a shot, it ain't as bad as it might seem, once you get into it and it's very powerful when you get through the "OMG WTF IS THIS" part.

KayBee Posts: 241 Rating: (7)	UMENCHO, Yes, I think so. Though not sure about Simatic manager version.By the time I start one project, a new version always in the market and my one become old version.But that never stop my work anyway because for that project my version works fine.
