huge project.db file size

oserit Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hi; We have a WinCC 4x installation which is running on a NT4 server platform. Sybase SQL is the database server.Our current .db file is over 4gb in size and we have lots of performance problems.Most of the time the application stops responding and i use the command dbeng50 -f at the command prompt which i learned from the help of the sybase server to force the database server to start. Anyone who has an idea on how to reduce the file size and what may cause the db file to grow this much will be helpful. Regards..

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi oserit, well, normally in V4 your database is not allowed to be bigger than 2GB. Elsewise it's not for sure, that systemstability is guaranteed. For V5 I´ve founde a little FAQ for exchanging the the RT-DB http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/8795809 You should use the option "storage" for your storing your taglogging data. good luck nemo

Our taglogging data is 4,1 Gbyte, but we have selected the DBaseIII format. Then the data is stored in 293 different files (293 tags are logged) of 14M. When we startup the server the CPU load will go up to 100%. I think he is reading the files and places the value into the database. On another system we have the same configuration, but the project is a bit smaller so the data size is together 1 Gbyte. On this system we have no problems. Strange isn't it? Anyone an idea? Jaap

Nemo Posts: 3149 Rating: (171)	Hi , well, the problem is, that normally using storage will not shrink you database. So if your database already has 4 GB using storage has no reducing effect on your DB the size will only remain the same. nemo
