Best regards........ Hi Wago, the gsd file is used to tell the profibus communicaion partner which device it's communicating with and what the I/O configuration is. The GSD file can for example be used to connect the HMI with third party devices. I hope this helped. Kind regards, Jens

P_PANDE Posts: 72 Rating: (6)	Here you are finding the same GSD in profinet io devices. That GSD is used for assigning address of HMI to use directly inlo Plc with io addressing as well as in hmi by using area pointer you can define operation in hmi through Plc like screen change through PLC also.

Operator controls as DP direct keys on a Mobile Panel 170 Also check: SIMATIC HMI Mobile Panel 170 Chapter6.4 Membrane Keyboard Quoting Siemens site: There are GSD files for: DP direct keys for S7 controllers S5 communication via Profibus DP From the manual: PROFIBUS-DP direct keys set bits in the I/O area of a SIMATIC S7 directly entered on the operating unit. The following operating elements can be connected on the Mobile Panel 170 as direct keys: -Function keys -Knob -Key-operated switch -Pushbutton with integrated LED Hope this helps Kr, Jens

Hello, I was explaining why the GSD's seen in your step 7 HW config are used for, and that's for the profibus dp operator panels, more specific for the direct keys. For an example why we are using gsd files to communicate with a 3d party device, you can just check the forums. For example, this guy is trying to communicate between a siemens slave and an emerson master:/tf/WW/en/Posts/36742 He also needs the GSD file to let the emerson master know who his communication partner is and what it's capable off. In this case the siemens slave can be seen as the 3th party device. I hope this answers your question. Kind regards, Jens
