I'm facing a problem by using SMC20 with incremental sin cos encoder!!! Please Advise!!!

Alex316 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Im using Sinamis S120. I face a problem by using SMC20 with incremental sin cos encoder. After I had power up, it shows alarm and fault. The fault code is F31125 Amplitude A or B overcontrolled and the alarm is Amplitude C or D (C^2 + D^2) over the tolerance bandwidth. I check the help file, its say the tolerance bandwidth is between 375mV to 600mV. My encoder is 2500pulse/rev and 1Vpp sin cos encoder. What is the meaning of those fault code? What should I check? Thanks!

Thanks! Hello Alex, Hopefully you are using Siemens encoder and Siemens Motion Connect cables. Also, hopefully the length of the Siemens Motion Connect cables is within specifications. If we assume that all of this is correct, I would say that your encoder is faulty. If you made you're own cables or modified them, this may be the source of your problem. Make sure that the voltage sense connections are made so that the drive will increase the voltage output to correct for long cable lengths. Hope this helps...

Timmy12345 Posts: 61 Rating: (1)	Hello I have faced this problem sometimes. The encoder outputs two signals 1 sinus and 1 cosinus with amplitude of +-500mV (1Volt peak to peak). If the SMC interprets these signals as above 600mV or below 375mV the fault will be output. You should use a scopemeter to measure the signals to check for EMC interference. There is no problem in using non siemens cables and encoders as long as the signal is good and within limits.

Bist Posts: 27 Rating: (1)	Hello Timmy, Thank you for your reply. We have resumed are commissioning after a break (due to some issue). I am still facing this problem. The problem is when i operate the drive in "Speed control encoderless" mode, the feedback from encoder parameter r61 is very good. But when i switch over to "Sped control with encoder" mode, the faults F31116, F31126, F31125 occur in drive. It gets acknowledged immediately and when i give ON command the fault F31116 occur in drive. Did the problem in your drive was resolved after connectingthe cables with EMC regulations????? DenisMor Posts: 344 Rating: (50)	Bist, The information that I could find on the XHI801 encoder indicates that it is a pulse incremental encoder: HTL. SMC20 only works for sin/cos encoders. For HTL & TTL encoders, SMC30 module must be used instead.

Bist Posts: 27 Rating: (1)	Hello Dennis, Yes you are partly right leine linde have XHI 801 incremental HTL encoder also but they supply XHI 801 incremental sin/cos encoder 1Vpp with the same name but different part number. I have attached the photo of encoder name plate. I want to confirm the compatibility ofthe CU310 andSMC20 version in the project. The firmware version of all components in the project is as follows: 1) CU310;PM340 and TM54F:- 2604515 2) SMC20 :- 4302906 I am still facing the problem.
