A kindly hint from my side, Change your Name here in the Forum from "Eng." to "Student" because "Eng." is the shortcut for Engineer, and so the kind of answers you will get are on a higher (and more complicated) Level. If we know that you are a student, we will give answers on a lower level to make it easier for you to understand. Also here in forum every one is a voluntary and nobody gets payed. I've seen a table in CPU s7-400 specificatio document in Memory Concept chapter. It says that for each byte of Inputs and Outputs in Process I/O Image , we should assign 12 bytes for sizing. I thought they should be same. I mean If I want to assign an input byte in Process I/O Image why should I assign 12 byte for that input in Process I/O Image sizing? And also I have same question in other entries of this table. I've attached the able to this message. Any responses of each entry of the table is appreciable. Thank you. IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (999)	Perhaps this table is only for UDT - defined parameters inside the program....? You do not have to take care of this information if you select the size of PI. My idea is, that this list is only important if you like to know what is the used memory of an UDT-Parameter inside the program.

If you don't then you obscure the issues. Inthe case you are discussing, the required 12 bytes necessaryfor each byte of memory (as shown in the table you quote)arerequired when you plan to expand the work memory area of the S7-400 CPUs. To satisfy yourself of this, please read the paragraphs that precede the table in the manual you are studying, for example: By changing the default values for the process image, local data, diagnostics buffer, and communication resources (see object properties of the CPU in HW Config), you can influence the work memory available to the runtime-relevant blocks. NOTICE Please note the following if you expand the process image of a CPU. Reconfigure the modules whose addresses have to be above the highest address of the process image so that the new addresses are still above the highest address of the expanded process image. This rule applies in particular to IP and WF modules that you operate in the S5 adapter bay on an S7-400. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
