I've got a question about alarms in WinCC

GranadaDude Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hello people, I've got a question about alarms in WinCC. Right now I have eg 2 alarms for each motor, x alarms for valves, and so on... What my colleague is asking, Am I obliged to enter each of these alarms into the WinCC tag database ? What he really wants to do, is create customized objects. Inside this object there are bits which should generate alarms. Is this possible ? The real question is if it is possible to create an alarm from vbs scripting ? If it's possible to be able to generate alarms in WinCC without creating an alarm tag, this would reduce manual entry a lot ! Any ideas, tips, tricks or experience on this topic are more than welcome. Regards, Tom.

Now, if you use WinCC with Siemens's PLC, you can use the TIA concept to obtain gains in the configuration of your system. 1. You can use the Message System of PLC, where messages be created in the PLC and exported to WinCC, and this way you only configure the message one time, in the symbol of PLC. If you use WinCC + Step + Protool, with Alarm_8, you can export the messages to WinCC and Protool. In the WinCC will be created a only tag (raw data type), to receive all messages from PLC. 2. You can configure the messages in the Alarm Logging, without configure the tags, and you set and reset the messages by API of WinCC, and you can run scripts to set/reset the messages inanyplace of WinCC, inclusive in your dynamics objects. Welll, the first case is more easy to do.

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi! Also... if you want a bit within a tag to set an alarm, Alarm Logging does address bits within bytes, for instance. So if you have a tag for your equipment's status and your alarm is in that same tag you can use it in Alarm Logging. Best regards, Danielle

Kibosh Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	Hey guy's, I like that idea about the plc blocks creating the raw-data and then WinCC makes the alarm. How can I find out how to do that? I must admit, I know how to work with WinCC in the standard way, but off course things like that make it powerfull, and it are now those things that I want to learn. Following a course about PCS7, will that help? So for the plc creating the alarms (and probably other bits also for use in WinCC), how is this done. Should the Step 7 and WinCC be installed on the same pc? Or does it create a file which I can transfer? How do I set in the plc the things that are needed to create that alarm? And of course, how do I read that raw-data in WinCC? You see, lot off questions of course, but I really want to learn these things, because I believe this can save a lot off time in projects. And more, it's also the boring time of the project. Typing in all those alarms and etc... Thx in advance

Kibosh Posts: 18 Rating: (1)	Hey thanx, Some nice links. now just find the time to test all that. But I'm wondering now. Is this only possible when Step 7 and WinCC together are installed on one pc? Because we normally install WinCC on the pc for the customer and program step 7 on our laptops. Now I do have a version of WinCC on my laptop but the screen is rather small to work with. So, is there also a possibility to create the data that AS-OS does, ourselfs? So I can make everything myself and keep working on two pc's? I mean, now you configure everything in Step 7 and then push the button. Step 7 will then create the data in WinCC. This data, can we make it ourselfs, or is it to hard?

We develop the WinCC always on the customer pc. When we transfer a project from one pc to another we always zip the complete folder and transfer that.
