I have tried to find some information on this device, but the manufacturers website only has a very simple 2 page product sheet. It says that it supports modbus RTU via RS485. It doesn't state whether it is a slave or master device. But my experience would suggest that it will be a slave device. You would have to contact the manufacturer and get some details of the modbus communications facilites of the device. The questions you need to be asking are:- 1) Is it a modbus master or modbus slave device? 2) What function codes does it support? 3) What are serial interface parameters defaults? (e.g. baud rate, parity etc.) 4) Can the serial interface parameters be customised? If so, how? 5) What data is mapped to what registers (i.e the register map)? 6) Does it have line terminator / pull-up resistors built-in? If so, what are the values of the resistors? On the Siemens side, you would need either a CP341 or CP441 communications processor (CP) and a modbus master dongle (note: the 441 will also need RS485 interface modules which are separate items). The CP you choose will depend on the S7 system you are using (300 or 400) and where you intend to connect the interface (direct to the S7 chassis or via an ET200 chassis). You will then need to write some software to interface with the S7 modbus communications FB, that accesses the data from the device. Here is a link to the manual. |
Programming today is the race between software engineers building bigger and better idiot proof programs, and the universe producing bigger and better idiots. |
