Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello, as i found on internet is, that IEC-625 seams to be the same. This is an old PC connection protocoll based on special connectors and protocols. I don't know any possible configuration or solution. I can't find also any Gateway. Sorry.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/18/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello SolutionFinder; The last time I crossed paths with GPIB (also known as IEEE 488) was in the University electronics lab, and was used to connect digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes and other types of digital instruments to computers and high-speed data acquisisiton equipment. At that time we were blown away by the 1 MB/sec data rate of transfer. It was a great way to capture details of rapidly changingsignals for later analysis. Twenty years ago, the only company that offered computer hardware/software for GPIB was National Instruments. They may still have such offerings. However I know of no PLC manufacturer that has incorporated this bus specification in their CPUs or communication modules. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

Marko Bursic Platinum Member Joined: 9/8/2009 Last visit: 7/17/2023 Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	My suggestion is: 1. connect instrument with PC and run program that reads out measurements 2. install and run Wireshark programto spy on transmitted packets and try to understand what is going on with help of fluke protocol that you got. 3. wih use of commands TCON, TDISCON, TRECV, TSEND on plc to emulate the same part of protocol that you are interested in.

But I doubt it would be useful in this case. GPIB uses a 24-pin connector that carries an 8-bit parallel signal which needs a signal analyser to display. Have a look at the following information on IEEE-488: http://www.tscm.com/ieee-488.pdf As I pointed out befre, I do not believe any PLC manufacturer has implemented IEEE-488 communications on their CPUs. If any new development has been done to set it up on a PLC, I would be interested in hearing about it. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

Dear Marco, I understood Littele bit what you want to say. But will you please explain how to test it? Means Software is availble for that from which I can read data through Ethrnet or RS-232. So how could I test with Wirreshark?

Marko Bursic Platinum Member Joined: 9/8/2009 Last visit: 7/17/2023 Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	As I understood you have two interfaces GPIB (IEEE 488.2) and ethernet, you made a wrong statement that you want to connect GPIB to PLC as it is impossible, you want to connect instrument via ethernet communication. Over a TCP/IP protocol which handles NIC or PLC there is an application protocol that is a fluke protocol. With wireshark you can sniff ethernet comunication, you can see connect/disconnectprocedure from TCP/IP protocol (same as TCON, TSEND, TRECV, TDISCON) andquery/response form PC/instrument (fluke protocol).
