Hello mrsrosa; This is explained in much detail in the IM 151-7 manual; see the screenshot below. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/56046285 The CPU that is integrated in the IM 151-7 is based on a S7-314, and has only one Sub-D 9-pin communication interface that can be set either to MPI or Profibus slave functions in the Hardware Config. At delivery, it is set to MPI. Both MPI and Profibus share RS-485 support, which means they can use this interface, but not together. MPI is the basic programming protocol for the S7-300 family, but can also be used to communicate between MPI masters (other CPUs or HMI panels); it is limited to a speed of 187,5 kB. Profibus-DP is used in master-slave networks (where this interface is a slave only) and can run at various speeds up to 12 MB. Once the IM 151-7's interface is set to Profibus (slave) it can also be used to download programs, monitor variables... Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
