IM308-C in CR 700-0LB rack with 115U 944B CPU

Simotion Posts: 223 Rating: (1)	I have an IM308-C profibus card in a CR700-0LB rack with 115U 944B CPU. The IM308-C is in an adapter casing in slot 3. There is no IM306 or IM305 at the end of the rack, for the cards between the cpu and the im308-c, I don't know exactly what types they are. I want to use 'line-adressing' with the IM308-C : I want to use directly IO adresses in my program, so no page adressing or communication FB. How can I calculate what the start adresses of my IO that comes by the IM308-C will be? Thanks

I already had a teststation working, but it had an IM306 expansian card at the end, at which adresses of al the cards on the cpu-rack were set with dip-swithches. Now I have to go to the customer. The customer's rack does not have an IM306 at he end, so adresses are not set with dipswitches. I have to insert the IM308-C and attach a dp-dp coupler to connect to an S7-Cpu. In the customer's rack there is next to the cpu some card that has an interfacefor an OP and there are also some cards for DI and DO. I want to be sure about the adress range available for the IM308-C card (in fact the DP-slaves), before I travel to the customer. I do not have my testrack available anymore. Thanks

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (999)	Check the 308-C manual about possible slots and also how do set the adress! Depending from CPU-Rack, there are different slots allowed!! The IM adress -setting will be done with ComProfibus Software! BUT take care: The adress of the 308C is NOT the adress of the slaves! You need the IM308C Adressi.e. for further diagnostic (if required) or if you have more than one IM308C in your rack. Slave adressing itself will be done also with ComProfibus Software. Or still I get you wrong?

Simotion Posts: 223 Rating: (1)	The manual for the IM308-C does not give me concrete information about what adres range to use for my Profibus slaves (Input output ranges), for the case there is no IM306 at the end of the rack.

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/6/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello Simotion as IBN-Servicealready said, the I/Oaddresses of the IM308C relatedDP Slaves are configured purely in COM Profibus and the existence or non-existence of an IM305 or 306 in the 115U rack have absolutely nothing to do with this. It is your responsibility tofind and use "free" I/O addresses for the IM308C related DP Slaves. As your 115U CR doesNOT have an IM305 or 306, the I/O addresses of the cards in its CR are determined by the Slot in which the I/O card is (so called "fixed Slot address assignment") and you'll find our more about in the manual below: S5-115U Programmable Controller Determining theI/O addresses are used by the "some card that has an interfacefor an OP" won't be as easy though and you'll have to either check its configuration and/or the S5 program (what type of card is it?) Electrical schematics of the control system and/or theS5 Cross reference may also help, but overall this type of "find free I/O addresses when adding an IM308C to an S5" is "normal" and not always easy.
