Independant Tag Logging Server?

henno2000 Posts: 177 Rating: (0)	Hi, Our project setup consists of one server and three clients. We have installed some equipment on site that feeds information from the device into the client machine via OPC. These tags are then used in tag logging for trending etc. Eventually, when the installation is complete, there will be over 1000 tags that required to be logged every second. My fear is that this information (which is currently fed back to the server) will greatly reduce the performance of the system. What I am wanting to know is if I can create a seperate tag logging server on the client machine to free up the performance of the system? (Or would I have to set this machine up as a server?) Dec Thanks, thought that would be the case. Could someone clarify the OS problem? At the minute I have XP Pro on one and Win2000 on another (Whatever IT had kickin' about at the time) Also, how would this affect the system by having more than one server on the system? Could someone please inform me that it is possible to run 2 servers of the same system? If so, (one used for controls and the other used for tag logging), would this also be a possibility (and therefore increase the performance of the control server by reducing its load)?

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi, A client can access up to 12 servers in runtime, or 24 servers in the form of 12 redundant pairs. Up to 32 clients can access a single server, if they don't have "configure remote" enabled. Sharing the tasks will indeed reduce your load... Best regards, Danielle

henno2000 Posts: 177 Rating: (0)	After speaking A&D UK Support they have indicated that a machine for seperate tag logging will not remove the high volume of traffic on the network. Instead I have opted to create a new project on another machine, which will create alarms, send through the PLC and into my existing project. Obviously to do this, a WinCC license shall be required. Would I need an additional server license? (I was wanting to create a new project and use on 2 machines on site, these machines will transmit the data from the receiving device through the COM port and into WinCC via OPC) Regards, henno2000
