Integrated connection between WinCC Pro V11 and IM151-8 CPU

jasonr Posts: 108 Rating: (2)	Hi, I am having problems setting up a connection between an IM151-8PN/DP PLC and a PC station with a WinCC professional runtime module. I would like to be able to access the PLC variables from WinCC directly, without having to create HMI tags in WinCC and link these to memory areas in the PLC. Is this possible? I have seen that there is a problem creating an HMI connection using the network view of the "Devices and networks" window, and have tried following the instructions given in entry ID 58112141, but this did not work either. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Jason

At the moment, the only way that we can access data in the PLC from WinCC professional is by using HMI tags that are linked to particular memory areas in the PLC, but not to actual PLC tags. That is, we can only use absolute access. Any ideas about why this might be? The project contains a single PC station and a single IM151-8 PN/DP CPU. The PC station is configured with a WinCC RT Professional module and a general ethernet interface module. The IP address of the ethernet interface is 172.25.3.10. The IP address of the PLC profinet interface is 172.25.3.20. A connection has been created in WinCC with the destination address as that of the PLC, but for some reason, this connection is highlighted in red in the HMI tag table when we try to link an HMI tag to a PLC tag. You can not copy the tags from plc to WinCC.You must create the tags in the tag table editor of WinCC new. You can use the settings of the following FAQ. Why is the graphic configuration of a connection to an IM151-8PN/DP CPU not supported in WinCC Professional? If the connection to the plc does not work, you check the access point in the PC/PG settings.Tweety

The FAQ says to select "Industrial Ethernet" under the interface for the connection, but when this option is selected, the ethernet address of the PLC station must be entered as six two-digit hexadecimal numbers. The IP address of the PLC station is 172.25.3.20, so how can this IP address be entered in the format required when the "Industrial Ethernet" interface is selected? Because of this, I selected "TCP/IP" as the interface for the connection, which allowed the PLC station IP address to be entered in the normal IPv4 format. But as previously mentioned, this connection would not allow HMI tags to link to PLC tags, but only to connect to specific memory areas in the PLC using absolute access. Is there a way to be able to link HMI tags to PLC tags of an IM151-8 PN/DP CPU? Jason

Hello jasonr An"Ethernet address" is the "MAC address"andalso known as"Ethernet hardware address" or"Hardware address" or even referred to as "Physical address", just to keep everyone on their toes (see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_addressfor more). Anyhow, every Ethernet device has a unique "six two-digit hexadecimal" based MAC address (well, should have) and you'll find it imprinted on your IM151-8. This MAC address is what you are meant to use and I hope thishelps (and also hope that Siemens will fix up the issue with the IM151-8 linkage to WinCC advanced).

I can manually specify an absolute address in the PLC for the HMI tag to refer to, but the HMI tag is then not actually linked to the PLC tag, but only to the address. If the address of the PLC tag changes, the address of the HMI tag will not. Also, is it possible to use PLC alarms from an IM151-8 PN/DP CPU in WinCC Prof V11? Thanks Jason
