Dear Experts,

Recently I have been assigned a task in my company to interface 840D controllers with PC running application developed in C#/VB.net. The existing computer is having SImatic NEt CP 5611 PCI Card installed in it and currently machine works with simatic sofware with some custom modules developed and running with easymask.exe

So now with my current setup can I directly send G-Commands to controller ? My requirments are very basic, I need to run axis between fix points at certain speed.

I gone through several documents but I am not getting clear idea of the actual usage of the above card or not able to find any interfacing example.

Please help me.

I had some old prjs with CP5611 card with VB .NET application, but via Prodave library. There is no problem to read/change data via this interface card, perfect working. I must say that this was many years ago. You only set in PG/PC interface WinCC Online that CP5611 card using usable profile, I select MPI because there was MPI prefered. Probably this times can be some other solution via some Simatic NET system, really don't know exactly, maybe other guys gives info. With that Prodave was perfect help with API and examples included via some higher languages - C++, VB ... That CP5611 act as only interface, I didn't anything for it special.

can you pls more specify your custom Siemens machine? As I said, don't know this time Prodave version, which devices can be accessible via new Prodave. In that old times S7-200/300/400 PLCs are supported, maybe other devices via MPI/Profibus profile. Pls check or give info what custom system you have.

Edit: pls consider that not only via MPI/Profibus is connection suitable, you can move data over RS232 but as I said, this must be checked if it is possible (maybe with some scripts). Prodave was only idea that some library exists to move data with Siemens devices and PG/PC.

Here Siemens machine is not custom, but the earlier guy had made a custom GUI which I guess created using simatic net's "easymask.exe". Otherwise machines is having 840D Controller and Simatic Net CP5611 PCI Card.

As per your suggestion I researched for Prodave. but still I am not able to find a method where I can send G-Commands directly from my vb.net program to Controller using CP-5611.

As you said you have worked on it, I want to know your projects were able to drive motors or you still have to rely on blocks return in mpf files ? It would be very helpfull if  you let me know what data you send/received to make drive works as per requirements.

as I mentioned in previous posts, that old time Prodave working with PLCs S7-200/300/400 and maybe with some other devices. That was only example how interface via MPI profile with CP5611. But in another my post was mentioned that there can be other interfaces like RS-232 serial port, if you have this port on your Sinumerik maybe this can be use to send some commands, parameters. What I've done was click to uper right corner search field and type what I need:

There are so many topics with infos. In some lines bottom there is Programming Guide Advanced, on page 152??? is info how configure commands for input parameters.

Pls look, that Prodave library acts like direct look at PLC memory, Read/Write from/to enabled areas of PLC. If it will be used for driving motor, all logic will be probably in PLC and some of control commands will be done via application created in higher language. In your case all is done via Sinumerik, it control all. There must be so some system how incorporate some control mechanism to it, maybe via RS-232 port.
