Can you please share you understanding of the best practices when installing wincc professional.

Is it better to install it first as a local admin and then join domain or the other way round - join domain and install it on the domain account?

If there are problems after joining domain what should be the approach to get the problems sorted ? eg. My simplistic understanding is at the moment:

1. Have all wincc manuals handy to check requirements for ports etc.
2. after joining domain check diagnostic logs if there are problems logged
3. check if all required ports are open - i belive OPC DA is a nightmare as it requires a huge range of ports open as for the communication random ports are selected but maybe things have already changed since 5 years ago.

Any tips are worth of gold...

If you are sure that you are going to install it on a domain, it is recommended that once you have configured the domain, you install WinCC. There is a step by step guide on how to do this:

However according to that guid it is required to remove pc from the domain and then rejoin.

But how to detect errors when PC with wincc joins domain? What method would you use to verity?

Is the best way to apply security settings and see if there was immediate feedback about errors?

I believe that in some cases wincc might fail quietly rather than display some error popup?

yes its the same in WinCC V7/8

Here also the recommendation is to take the PC outof the domain, do the WInCC Installation with local administrative rights and then take the PC back to domain

This should prevent Installation and configuration errors  with restrictions from domain settings
