Is it possible to use ordinary (normal) ethernet card instead of siemens industrial ethernet H1 in a HMI monitors S5 PLCs with WIncc 5?

Thank you all for your helps. Until now by your helps I understand that for upgrading our old S5 monitoring system that using WinCC5+SP2 on NT4 OS I can,
1. Use Win2K+SP1 for upgrading computers
2. I can use CP1613 PCI cards instead of ISA network cards in the computer.

Butsome questionsthat relate to upgrading other parts of the network still exists. Some of them are as follows:

1. There is a big star cuppler hub in the system and I want to check possibility of using normal hubs or switch hubs instead of it. Normalhubs using RJ45 connectors.So, mayI can use AUI to RJ45 converters for connecting the network cards installed on the PLC racks (CP1430) to normal hubs; Can I? If yes please let me know a brand of AUI/RJ45 converters you tested before.
2. Can I use normal ethernet cards instead of CP1613? If yes then should I change any address or setting on CP1430 that installed on PLC racks? Also please let me know more details about the required license (both WinCC5+SP2 and WInCC6).

I can tell you that it is no deal to use any other Switch you want instead of the ASGE Star coupler, as long as you do not use the SNMP with it, if you use the SNMP functions of the ASGE Star coupler you will have to change a bit of your configuration but that’s it.

The CP1430 you mentioned does not need the AUI RJ45 Transceiver you talked about earlier. The CP requires a special cable that switches the Interface from AUI to ITP which is signal compatible with RJ45. This cable is mentioned in the Catalogue IK PI 2007. I add to this Post a short extraction of an older version of the IK PI for you to see.

J_Belluntilnow I understand that I can use the following itemsfor replacing hardware of our old monitoring system (that based on WINCC5+SP2):

1. CP 1613 A2 PCI instead of old CP 1413 in the PC side.
2. Any computer with Windows 2000 and SP1 with PCI slots.
3. An AUI to ITP cable for each CP 1430 communication cards available in the system.
4. Any normal model of hubs or switch hubs

Arethe above list correct?Sorry but I should checkeverythingbefore start buying process.
Also could you please recommend me a hub or switch hub from current siemens products that I can useas the item 4 of the above list?

I am sorry, I am not from the WinCC side, and I have not this experience in there. My preference is more on communication side, therefore I will try to focus on this.

The Mini OTDE is useful if you have an AUI Interface without automatic conversion to ITP (which is signal compatible to RJ45). The CP 1430 you mentioned does not require such a device, the last CP that needed this was a CP 143.

So if you want to save money, use the cable I mentioned earlier.
