Is S7 1500 Reduncancy Not Reliable For Controlling In Oil n Gas Plant

Dear All,

Sorry for my English.

My company supplies IR compressor and the client want to change Intls control with SIemens Redundancy PLC.

My Vendor delivered S7 400 and I asked him why not S7 1500 Redundancy?

There are two reasons according to him:

1. The time switching when failure in S7 1500 is slower than S7 400.

2. 1500 is not as reliable as 400  for controlling in oil n gas environment,

1500 Redundancy is ok for industrial and manufacture site.

Are those true?

S7-1500 redundancy is very new, especially compared with S7-400 redundancy.  Some might expect all the bugs have been worked out for s7-400, but some s7-1500 bugs might still exist because s7-1500 redundancy is still relatively new.

I do not know the answers to the questions, but can see why someone would think s7-1500 less reliable simply because it has not been available that long.

don't be concern that siemens doesn't write explicit that the 1500 is for chemical processes.

The S7-400 was  (at some features is) the best solution for the chemical industry at critical processes.
There are used the H-systems. Thats very important for critical processes (not only in the chemical industry).

Otherwise is the 1500-H and the1500-R new at portfolio of Siemens and should supersede the S7-400H at teh next years.

You have a "normally" and uncritical process.
Of course can you use a 1500-system.

Why is chemical process out of S7 1500 series scope? As Cemo shared a comparison table, chemical process and process automation itself were excluded especially.

Any negative experience or any best experience at site?

Might be, just my 2 cents, the list is made up prior to Redundant System of 1500 (R/H).

And as far as I assume, the S7 1500 not suite for Chemical and Petrochemical is because they don't compliant within G3 coating requirement.

Siemens Normal modules as per attachement showing all S7-300, S7-400, ET200M, ET200S, and ET200iSP modules are approved for implentation with high concentration of corrossive gas in compliance with ISA-S71.04 severity level G1;G2;G3.
