Is there a method to get the correct value of the counter on numbers greater than 32767?

Hello! I have the same problem, I'm reading a counter value from a LOGO connected to a press that it reach numbers bigger than 32767 so is there a method to get the correct value of the counter on numbers greater than 32767? I'm reading a counter by modbus connection but whe the value is bigger than 32767 it turns to a negative number. Someone told me to work with 2 16Bit integers that you combine (bit
shifting), but I can't understand how to do this aproach.
