Is there a S5 to S7 convertor?

Please carfully read the Manual before you try a conversion. Thers is depending on your S5 Program sometimes a lot of editing of your S5 program required. For example, the converter will not work with Standart FB's that are part of your CPU or with Communication FB's.

naah Posts: 76 Rating: (8)	Hi, The converter is under "SIMATIC\STEP7\Converting S5 files". This converter is for usual instructions like logical andmemory handlings. For Function Blocks (FB) this converter is not so efficient and you must convert many of instruction by hand. Good Luck!

As others mentioned S5-S7 converter is part of Simatic manager for S7 when you do a conversion you will get a lot of warnings and errors which can surprise you [ I have done in the past projects where I have converted the program from 2 S5 systems and integrated them into a single S7 system with around 2000 io's ] but just keep your head cool and you will have 90 - 95 % code in perfect shape - The first problem - PB and FB in S5 but FB and FC in S7 - When you convert the program The editor always convert the PB/FB from S5 into FC's which is something which I hate because during startup if you have a problem it becomes very difficult to find out which PB from S5 was coverted to which FC in S7 ( You have to be careful enough to take a printout of the same ).What I normally do is I start adjusting the FC numbers . The FB's from S5 are converted with the same number as FC in S7 and for PB's I use the block number and add 1000 to it and use this as block number for the FC. For example if you have PB 1,2,3,4 and FB 1,2,3,4 in the program then I get FC 1001,1002,1003,1004 for the PB'S and Fc 1,2,3,4 for the FB's. After the conversion is over I create in S7 4 FB's FB1,2,3,4 without multiinstanz and copy the content of FC 1001 into FB1, FC1002 into FB2 and so on and then delete FC1001-1004. With this little bit effort I have then in S7 FB1,2,3,4 and FC 1,2,3,4. S5 PB's == S7 FB'S and S5 FB's == S7 FC'S with block number matching one to one in S5 and S7. Don't spend time on communication blocks - throw them straight away and create new blocks in S7 with the required standard blocks 3. Check DB calls in S5 and S7 - You will get a whole load of warning " check global DB is set correctly" and try to switch to DB addressing in S7 format instead of using those Open DB command of S5 - Cross referencing will be better I hope these tips help you

Check DB calls in S5 and S7 - You will get a whole load of warning " check global DB is set correctly" and try to switch to DB addressing in S7 format instead of using those Open DB command of S5 - Cross referencing will be better 100% agree! I also do this full-qualified - S7 format Data - addressing (i.e. DB100.DBW32). But you have to keep in mind, that this addressing need some more time. So, specially in loops, may be it can be better just to open the DB before and only adress the Dataword. Regards.

Bhaskaran Posts: 107 Rating: (13)	Not only in loops but also whenever you are using indirect addressing . The converter does a good job in converting indirect accesses but you can optimise the code much more effectively in S7.
