I'm trying to configure an IO field with a tag connection to the process value. I have an array with six numbers in it, called 'prices' and a variable that ranges from 0 to 5 called 'selection'. What I'd like the IO field to display is prices[selection], but this produces an error when directly typed into the process tag field. 

I know this can be done via a text list, with inputs 0-5, connecting the process value to 'selection' and setting the outputs accordingly, but this kind of defeats the entire purpose of having arrays. Is what I'm proposing possible?

If it helps I'm using portal v13, WinCC comfort and a TP700 comfort screen.

Never mind, I found an easy workaround. For anyone else looking for the same answer: Just declare another variable in the PLC program. In my case I just used: 

current_prices := prices[selection]

Can't tell if it works with V13, too, but at least from V13 SP1 you can use Tag Multiplexing. It makes the same on the HMI what dennyc did on the PLC:

dennyc 

current_prices := prices[selection]
