Inside the PLC: Cut /melt off the connection of the the card reader from the circuit board. Put a proper password on the user program.

So if the cpu itself is protected via password and also the slot fort the momery card is secured via an padlock, it is not possible to reset the cpu without knowing the current password. At least ist is not possible without destroying the padlock or the cpu... regards sancruz

Hi,

if it is an S7-1500 you can use a small padlock (there is a hole for that) and lock the slot for the memory card.
So if the cpu itself is protected via password and also the slot fort the momery card is secured via an padlock, it is not possible to reset the cpu without knowing the current password.

At least ist is not possible without destroying the padlock or the cpu...

Especially the young, less experienced, one-man companies are caught in the trap of working for unethical customers. Or the contractor is not able to fully deliver what was promised to the client The contractor may end up not getting paid. The client then gets the next contactor to continue or expand the work. A contractor may aim to be the maximum security into his build. The maximum damage to the client is the situation where he cannot just reuse the already installed hardware. On the other side of the coin are unethical contractors that aims to keep the client locked into using their services. On the extreme it is about generating call outs that only the contractor can service. (Think randsomware.) Again it is too costly for the customer to break away from the contractor. At every turn the client and contractor are ready to get a knife in the back. This is in deep contrast in other regions where a relationship between contractor and client is built up with the patience of farmers. But we are seeing this attitude souring as more people are only concerned about the [$] in their pocket.
