Kamstrup Meter + 313C CPU + CP 343-1 Lean

Ton Verra Gold Member Joined: 4/20/2007 Last visit: 12/13/2024 Posts: 728 Rating: (43)	Hello, I am trying to get something to work and its harder then it seems: I've got a Kamstrup Energy meter that can be equiped with a LON or MBUS module. And I can't seem to find any of these systems working with Siemens. Has anybody here done something like that, or know where to find gateways. I could fit a MODbus or Profibus card to my PLC if needed... Please help. Ton Verra

If you use CPU313, you can use CP341 comm processor and buy modbus driver for it (its expensive method). You can write your own modbus driver for CP341 comm processor (cheaper, but harder way). Also you can use CPU 224 or even CPU222 and buy modbus driver library to use with these CPU. Most of energy meters has modbus RTU. You must make sure that your meter is modbus RTU. If you have modbus TCP, you must buy driver from siemens and use it on CP343-1 as you said in subject. I believe that your meter supports modbus RTU, so no need for CP343-1 comm processor. Consider exchanging CPU to S7-200 family becouse they are more friendly with modbus than S7-300 family . Good luck. Regards,

If so, you canget detailed information on them and try to write driver by yourself and use one of siemens serial communications processors. Other way is to find protocol gateway from M-Bus or LON to one of siemens supporting protocols: MPI, Profibus or Modbus. We found a solution by buying another PLC which can handle M-BUS and combining the data in a OPC server. LON is the name of the protocol, and I think LONworks is the name for the platform. Thanks again!

I work in a company that fabricates boilers for industry, ship and off shore. The project for which I asked help is a Remote Heating Facility. We are making two Hot Water Boilers in two 40ft containers, an other company is makes four Cooling Units in containers. Every one of these containers has to have the ability of operating stand alone, but with the actual configuration, they are connected to an higher system. The Supplier of the Cooling Containers delivers the OPC system for his part, including one that handles the MBUS. They use a B&R PLC to process the data from the Gas, Electricity and Energy Meters. We deliver a Beijer OPC system for our part, and the different meters are going to be connected to the other Supplier his PLC system. This was the easiest solution ( for us anyway ).
