KP300 Set Bit While Key Pressed Issue

Plazz Posts: 73 Rating: (2)	Hi all, I’m having a problem when trying to use ‘set bit while key pressed’ on a KP300 connected to an S7-1200. The problem is that it doesn’t work! When changing from ‘set bit while key pressed’ to ‘set bit’ it works just fine. The problem is then that the bit is always set until the PLC is put in to stop mode. Using ‘reset bit’ on release of key does not work either? A sample of my program can be seen in the attachment below... The method I am using works fine on the KP400 & 600 but just refuses to work on the 300 even though the manualimplies that itshouldwork? Can anyone advise on what I am doing wrong? 0_Einstein Diamond Member Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/23/2025 Posts: 15549 Rating: (2467)	In my PLC logic, I have a "lastOB" that is a very high OB # (like OB2000), that handles resets of HMI bits that cause problems like the one you see. I tried to understand why the HMI would not handle it properly, but I changed my logic to respond to these problem buttons, then reset the bit in the logic. If the button works better as a toggle, those are pretty easy to set up with some simple plc logic but can get tedious if there are lots of toggle buttons. I do not know if this information is helping answer the issue, but it does allow for simple workarounds that work for many PLC & HMI manufacturers, and makes the logic very similar between many types of projects. Another way to think about it is to ignore the issue and find a way that works no matter the reason or the problem with the HMI/PLC and how they communicate.

Your comments are understood regarding a work around, but what I find frustrating is that the problem should exist in the first place? I mean, what’s the point in providing a facility to do something if that facility doesn’t actually work? Maybe a fix will be provided in a later service pack? Thanks & regards, Plazz

Thanks & regards, Plazz It is possible the HMI is responding correctly and that we have been trying to use it incorrectly. Maybe try these two events for your button: On button press : set bit On button release : reset bit That does what you want unless your plc logic resets the bit. I am not sure if the lower end HMI's support all functions we normally want to use, like set bit while key pressed. If the option is there (I have no examples to test), it should work. If it should work and does not work, submit a support request. EIther there is a necessary work-around, or there is a solution. EIther way, the problem is logged, tracked, and may cause the developers to either fix or add the feature, or at least create a FAQ to help solve the problem.

If not, please perform an OS update againg, but now with option "Reset to factory settings" selected. Otherwise, I would advise to start a Service request: Support Request Best regards, Wizard
