Laptop CPU frequency for Portal V13

peterplavec Posts: 28 Rating: (1)	I wouldnt buy any cheaper than Intel Core i5 at least! But Core i7 is more preferable. Dont underestimate TIA portal requirements as I did, they are pretty brutal but neccessary to run something like "smooth". I got 8GB RAM, quick SSD disc and quad core AMD with 1.7GHz and it's running slow, often lags and not responding. I have at leas 5 crashes/day due low performance. It's pain in the arse!

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1198)	Throwing in my 2c.. It depends very much on what you are doing with TIA. If you have TIA Basic V13 with single PLC and single Panel in the project, you'll be okay with less than the specified PC. We have an 2 generation i5 station running on Windows 7 Professional with 4GB RAM that is dedicated to standalone S7-1200 projects.. it runs well enough and stable. Another machine I have running on Windows XP with TIA V11 is a 2 Core Duo processor with 3GB RAM. At times it even outperformes my newer PC running TIA V13. Newer is not always better. If you have Panels with HD quality screens.. well that is the other side of the spectrum. There it is better to get the best your money can afford. You need to know that you are in need of a work horse. It needs to work hard. However close you come to the specification given, it is a good idea to get a good big brand name of a machine. An HD resolution screen is highly recommended to get the most from TIA when in the field. And do think of getting a good carry bag that is well paded! Hope these thoughts help. w

But Core i7 is more preferable. ... i7 do not have any benefit against i5 concerning TIA. i7 is still more expensive but the increase of power is only palpable for gaming and Video - applications, not by using Step7 or TIA. Use the money for more RAM instead of i7. 16GB RAM is nice because you may use a RAM-Disk as temporary folder.
