Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	There is no "official" solution for backing-up licenses since it is not allowed to create copies. You should preserve all license documents carefully and request for replacements from Siemens Support in the event of a crash. For temporary use you can activate the trial licenses.

The beauty of this is that when the unthinkable happens and you have to rebuild/restore the PC after a failure its pretty much a one click exercise rather than wading through piles of CDs to install the OS and all apps. PCS7 takes an age to install just by itself ! The package is self expainatory, you select the drive to backup and select the destination (another hard drive in same PC, network drive or a USB drive) and let it churn away (10-20mins on average). For the restore process you'd boot the PC using the Simatic Image Creator CD, choose the image file you want to restore and the destination hard drive on thePC. Painless.. (!) It is not possible to backup just the license files as they are stored in an encrypted locationon the PC. If its just the license that has become corrupted then you just need to call the license activation hotline with you paper license copy in hand and they will guide you through reactivating the license over the phone.

If you want to format your PC means you can transfer back your licenses to the SiemensLicense key USB and transfer it backup to the same PC throughAutomation License Manager. If you have the"floating license",the license can be transferred to another PC. The Automation License Manager works as Cut-Paste, It will not allow to copy licenses.

ABN Posts: 212 Rating: (12)	hi, Every licesnce come along with emergency 14 days license. so, in case of crash of the system a user must install that license. In mean time user is required to contact Hotline for replacement of licenses. this is the formaland effectiveway of recovering of licenses.This assures that, licenses can work on any machine. but ghost may not work on any other machine.

Actually some solution for this is required. Currently with virus and other issues is causing to sturggle a bit with licenseproblems. With image backup the problem is also that the image backup works only for the exact specific type of hardware. If for some reason the hardware fails and you have to put an old image back you might get into trouble unless the new hardware is exactly the same type. The most relaible solution is using floating license installed in another server and licenses are "leased"while running. But then maintianing a license server comes with its problems andcosts. Krish
