Logic of the numbers of PLC's

Schrien Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	What is the logic of the PLC model numbers from Siemens. First you have the SIMATIC S7-300 and now the newest PLC is the SIMATIC S7-1500. What does thes numbers mean? And where can i find some basic history of some PLC's? Thanks for the help.

Only for a complete history of SIMATIC Products from Transistor based products, IC Based ,Micro-controllerd based and modern type of controller, read "Milestones in Automation" from Arnold Zankl .I have it , it is really impressive book with many illustrative figures and tables.A nice combination of history , product development and success story of SIMATIC Products. I'm on school and the thing I want to know is which year some PLC's where published and something about the numbering of these PLC's. Do I really need to buy a book to get this information? Thanks.

Of course Not, You can search and for sure , you will find all you want via search engines. Just search for keywords, and you will find plenty of related topics, read them and take notes. That book is a reliable source of data and all you want is encapsulated in an elegant collection.Perhaps you can see the content / list of chapters in Google Book or find it in library of you university(college).
