Logo!8 to yf-s201 flow meter, start/stop on demand.

As I'm waiting for my LOGO!8 24vdc I'd like to learn how to controll a 24vdc solenoid using a hall effect flow sensor, the YF-S201.

Connection details:

• Redwire : +5V
• Black wire : GND
• Yellowwire : PWM output.

I would need to have a signal from an IR sensor deactivate(open) the N/O solenoid.

At 450 pulses/1 liter - The 1,32 liter of fluid i need would take (1,32x450=) 594 pulses before the flow would be shut, i.e the solenoid activated to pinch the tube shut.

I also need the IR signal to be ignored after this until another one is activated.

Is all of this possible with LOGO!8 24vdc?

Not directly.

The halleffect flow sensor has a TTL output, HIGH signal = 5 VDC.

Input of a 24VDC LOGO! wants 12VDC or more for HIGH, and 5VDC or lesser for low.

Thanks for the help. I'll use another flow sensor for the next machine. For this one I'll just go with the 1960's big pile of relays I already built around a China-LCD-flow meter. I just know my life will get simpler when I learn the Logo8.

If you have an appropriate flow meter or a level converter, then you can try the attached program. You need fast counter inputs, see technical data of your Logo. In my example I1 is the start signal and I3 is the sensor input. Q1 is for your solenoid. Don't change the direct connection between the sensor and the cnt input of the counter, this is required for fast counting.

I can't wrap my head around why the Logo's fast input would not be able to read 5v fast signals. My brain just goes: Why?! And I can't find small flow meters with 12v signals anywhere. A 5v to 12v level converter is also as mythical to me as the Ice Giants that Odin said he'd get rid of. I can't bellieve Google AND(!) AliX failed me 

I just started thinking again about shrinking the electronics for the next machine and I would love to use the logo8 because of all the other solenoids in the machine. I just want the Logo to work as a bunch of relays and time delay relays that work in a cycle.

Only the flow meter would be fast but I would like to use 4 flow meters, one for each vessel being filled. I've read that I could convert the signal into a full revolution by calculating that one rev. is x pulses so x pulses is one rev etc., but i want it to be accurate. 450 pulses per liter is 2,2'ish milliliters per pulse and that is accurate enough for me.

Basic idea is, when the Logo has, in fast input, counted 150 pulses from the flowmeter, it sends from the output + or -  to a 24vdc solenoid that stops the flow. After this the counter resets itself and waits for the next signal it can start counting again.

I haven't bought the Logo yet because if I can't get it to run the flow meters and solenoids I'll have no use for it.

I'll try to explain the cycle in steps:

1: Start signal to logo= only after 2 seconds of continuous signal should the cycle start. Otherwise just wait.

2: Upon starting I need relay type action to three solenoids. 1sec. and 2sec. signals instantly to two of the solenoids and the third gets a  1sec. signal after waiting the first sec. before deactivating. So:

Sol. #1 = 0 to 1 sec.

Sol. #2 = 0 to 2sec.

Sol. #3 = 1 to 2sec. 

3: A fourth and fifth solenoid are activated and after 2sec. the fifth is deactivated. 0,5sec. later the 4 solenoids for the fluid activate and the flow meters kick into action. Each flow meter talks to one solenoid. They all activate at the same time. When any one of these has counted 150 pulses it deactivates it's own solenoid. When all four solenoids are deactivated it waits 2sec. after which the fourth solenoid is finally deactivated.

There are a few "ifs". If the vessel is in the right place an IR sensor will give a go-ahead-signal to the logo. If there is no signal there is no action. I have read that this is fairly simple to write. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If I can get the logo to do all of this, I can do everything with it.

Any help on what parts I need or IF I should use something other than Logo is welcome.

Why? Take a look at the technical datas of the LOGO!.

 Thank you. I sort of understand, but I'm new at this. I just know what I want and need. Not how everythng works hehe. 

Anyhow, seems I misspelled when I was searching for the 5v to 12v level converter. English is my third language so It's not perfect.But I found them now and they seem pretty simple. Just to clarify, if i convert the 5v signal to a 12v signal, I can use the Logo 8 24/24 for the flow sensors?(see above post). It will give around 20 pulses/sec per sensor. Sometimes a bit more, upp to 40/sec and sometimes less. Will the Logo handle it?

If it can handle it, can I convert 1 pulse to 2,2 ml and have it calculated and displayed in real time how much has passed and what the LPM is?

Example:

1              2               3              4   = flow meter#

23,4         26,1         19,5          22  = MilliLiters passed, IRT

3,2           3,4           2,9           3,0  = Liters Per Minute IRT

This way I could troubleshoot every individual line if the flow is too low or too high.

First of all, have you planned toys for kids or an industrial project ? Your flow sensor YF-S201 is not an industrial sensor, you only get estimated values for the flow. It may be, that you buy several components and find out, there is no usable result. Then all your work is done for nothing.

If you want to continue with this sensor, then you should prefer an Arduino board and learn it's programming language. You also can find examples to read out this sensor, search on google.

For me it is not interesting to spend time, when i see, this is the wrong way for a solution. I also don't want to program complete projects, just give help in single functions. If you have a base program and need help, then upload your program and ask for single functions.

It's simple bottling machines for small breweries(and my own brewery).

I'm not asking for the whole code. I'm just after an opinion if it will work. Before I put hundreds of hours into learning the Logo I just want to investigate if there even is a point in doing so.

I'm not fixed to YF-S201. I have used it before so I only used it as a reference. All flow meters that I have found give a 5vdc signal. In my mind It's just a matter of calculating how much (ml) one pulse is and then multiply with how much I need for each fill. The YF-B5 and similar stainless hall sensors seem to be a bit better. POM plastic internals so they're food grade. But again, all have 5v signal.
