I don't want to get into an argument with you or someone else about export restrictions, but LOGO and industrial automation are getting further and further apart. LOGO is buggy and is soon almost comparable to any Arduino-based hobby module. Siemens is not interested in anything other than sales, known errors not fixed for years. There used to be LSC service packs, now it's history - bugs will be fixed maybe in the next version. Looks like Siemens is gradually killing LOGO! family. I would not dare recommend any new project using LOGO - you can't be sure that if needed, you can quickly get software that will actually work with the device in junction box, installed 5 years ago.Not to mention that different communication modules are created (CMR/CIM/CMK), but there is no way to connect the expansion modules of the previous generation to the 0BA8 base module - you have to replace everything. There are friendlier alternatives that do not fall behind in terms of functionality. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

It used to be like this. LOGO was quite a polished product and worked very well as a replacement for relays and timers. As long as the development took place in Germany. For a long time I also considered LSC to be the best for such micro-automation work in terms of logic of use. All this could be done before. In recent years, it makes more sense to carry different versions of LSC on a memory stick. 1. - "fully up and down compatible with all LOGO! versions" - Never been up compatible. You cannot program LOGO 8.1 with LSC 8.0. 2 . "you also can create a LOGO! program with the latest software and still work with your old LOGO! Soft Comfort" - Have you tried this in reality? Try to open .mnp project with LSC8.0 and save one program as .lsc (.mnp can include multiple programs). You can manually unzip this .mnp file (it's essentially a zip file), but older versions of LSC won't open it directly. In fact, this cannot be expected too. 3. "and convert it to any other Logosift Comfort version" - look at ixo65 comment. 4. Linux support is officially only for one distribution (Suse). All other variants need more or less tweaking. I can't speak for MAC support, but I remember that there were installation problems with the latest MacOS versions. 5. In terms of price i agree. But for device that you put in an electrical panel and that works there 24/7 for the next 10 years is getting further and further away. It's not the hardware that's the problem - physically it even works that long. Some firmware bugs start appearing in unexpected places. Most of the time it works, but it doesn't work in every situation. Works with another firmware version. Such unexpected things. You can't assume that you have a base module in cardboard box. you just replace the faulty one and everything works as before. It used to be possible.6. I agree. 7. Never tried. Isn't the Setup.exe / Setup.bin just on the DVD? Later I have downloaded an update from the Siemens site. ------ I didn't mean Raspberry Pi (although they also have an RPi Compute Module for industrial use) - the RPi processor is too powerful for LOGO. I'm not going to advertise competing solutions here, but they do exist. I've liked LOGO and ideas behind it for decades, but what's happened in the last 4-5 years doesn't give much hope for its continuation in the long term. |

Hi, here some notes because of missunderstandings: 1. You never can use an old version to program a hardware with new firmware. This is not what I mean. But you can open the old programms created with an older LSC version in a newer LSC version, change the hardware to the newer version and download. In addition a LSC v8.2 created program you can copy to a MSD-card and then use this MSD card in a LOGO! 8.3. 2. mnp is network network program mode. Off corse you can not use it if your older LSC version do not have this mode. But you can export any LSC program which is part of a .mnp project, change the target hardware and save/download it to a LOGO! hardware your old LSC version support, if your program doesn't include new functions. Yes, I have used this several times. 3. Yes, there are some bugs, but this was been corrected by Siemens in a newer LSC version. 4. But there is a Linux version supported. How will you support all the lots of different linux versions? As long as you use the supporte Linux version you are fine and if you have experiances with Linux, in lots of cases it also work with other linux version. But in such cases you need expert knowledge in Linux. 5. The installation issues with MacOS are not based in LSC. This is based on the automatically "unzip" function in MacOS. Just download the uograde from a Windows PC, then copy the file to a MAC PC, unzip and install. I have added some very poor examples for different LSC version. All this examples I have created with LSC V8.3. This you can check in the programm history. All of this examples can be used, modified and downloaded with the old related LSC version (V3, v6, v7, v8.0, v8.1/2, V8.3). That's why I still maintain that there is no automation software with more compatibility than LOGO! Soft Comfort. And do not forget, you by it one time and get all future updates free of charge.
