2700Hp Logo! Posts: 37 Rating: (0)	Dear experts, I have to connect my Logo! 230Ro to a Logo! TD panel. But the Logo! TD is to be the otherside of two bulkheads. Plus I have only room for a very short cable run (3-5cm) inside the first enclosure (and no room to store excess cable). Consequently I want to make my own cables up. And is it possible to obtain a cable wiring diagram for the Logo! - TD panel cable? Are the connectors for the serial port on the Logo! and Logo! TDavailable separately,likewise what does the logo TD use as a power connector? Also can anyone advise me where I can buy themin the UK? TIA.

LOGO!Barbarian Posts: 173 Rating: (95)	Hi there 2700Hp Logo! You can extend the length of the TD interface cable by an extra 7.5m with an ordinary 1-to-1 serial cable with a male Sub-D 9pin to female Sub-D 9 pin cable (serial port extension cable). Or with the information given in the package insert with the TD, you could make up your own cable with such connectors with only 4 cores (best to use a good shielded cable though). Siemens has shown such a solution at the Light & Building fair in Frankfurt in April 2010 (see pic attached). I have hear that some customers have extended up to 100m, but I am sure that Siemens will not guarantee this, 'cos they have not control over the signal noise that cna be picked up over such a long distance, especially if a poor quality cable goes past some electrically noisy devices like drives, motors or big transformers and switchgear. Also remember, that there are some opto-isolating electronics in the thick plug at the end of the TD interface cable that goes into the LEFT side of ALL ..0BA6 LOGO! CPU's. These electronics get their 3.3V DC supply from the TD, NOT from the LOGO! itself. SO over a long distance, this small supply can fall too low to supply this interface correctly. 2700Hp Logo! Posts: 37 Rating: (0)	Thank you for your responses so far. Maybe I haven't explained my self clearly enough as I don't seem to find the answer I need: 1. The standard cable is too long for my use. I need to cut it short if I use it. Also the connector shell provided by Siemens is too big and will foul the enclosure. So I need to use a smaller version. 2. I will have to then put a new connector on the end ofthe shortened cableto pass through the first bulkead. 3. I can produce a cable to run from this connector through the secondbulkhead to the TD. I understand the TD serial connector is a 9 pin D type. But what is the power connector? TIA

LOGO!Barbarian Posts: 173 Rating: (95)	Hey 2700Hp Logo! Aaaaahhh! Now I understand! OK, some others have cut off the sub-D 9 pin end of the TD Interface cable to make it shorter. I do not know the exact 'colour mappings' but I am sure you can 'buzz it out' with a multimeter once you have cut & stripped the cable. Attached is a picture of what one person did and posted it on the forum. This way, they could put the cable through the enclosure through a small hole (5 mm) and a suitable rubber grommet and carry on outside the enclusure. Hope this helps! Crozet Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	About power connector I have not my own TD yet but power connector looks like normal phoenix contact connector. There should be two holes with tightening screws on connector. So you can freely pull power cable for TD and then connect wires to connector. This connector isvery small so you should have no problem to fit this connector if you manage to fit9 pin SUB-Dconnector (without covers). And I bet this connector is part of the delivery. So data cable needs only cutting, pulling cable, one9-pin SUB-Dconnector shringing socks andsoldering. Power cable you can pull normal way. Remark! Power supply for LOGO! TD is either 12 V DCor 24 V AC/DC.

LOGO!Barbarian Posts: 173 Rating: (95)	Hey 2700Hp Logo! I forgot to answer about the power supply plug/socket. It is a standard product from Molex - you can buy them at any electonic component supplier agent of Molex or from RS components or similar catalog seller. The great thing about the power input on the TD, is that it is not POLARISED - you cna put the supply wires on either way around, so you cannot make a mistake! It also supports a wide input voltage range 12V DC or 24V AC or 24V DC - this is also really helpful. Hope you come right with your project! Cheers

I had hoped it could be used alone, but if I have to power it through a molex connector I'm going to have to put it in a box (for safety perception reasons). Is there a mechanical drawing of the TDserial cable.... I need to know how much more to put aside to the left hand side of the 230RC module. TIA

LOGO!Barbarian Posts: 173 Rating: (95)	Hey Crozet! I hope you like your new TD when it arrives! It comes with the TD interface cable and also with the molex connector for power. Siemens decided that the TD should supply the power down the TD interface cable lines to the interface plug, so that the necessary opto-isolator components did not have to get built intot he LOGO! Base units (increase costs - even for those who do not want to use a TD) and there was not enough space on the PCBs inside for power supply components (like on a 230 V AC to make 3.3 VDC). So soory, you have to run your own power to the TD. Regarding space, the TD interface plug takes up 1TE (the same width as a mini circuit breaker +- a millimeter or so). I do not have a technical drawing, but attached is a picture that I took at the Light & Building fair in Frankfurt earlier this year. There is a neat cover for the TD interface plug - the Siemens guys said that it would soon come int he same packing as the TD - do not know if this is happening yet, I bought my last TD in May 2010. This TD plug cover makes it look better and secures the TD plug better into the base unit. It also allows you to put a DIN Rail clamp on the left side to hold everything together.
