Making a pointer???

I have the following code: L 298 //start @ word 298 L 16 // make pointer *I T #Point L #Point LAR1 L DBW [AR1,P#0.0] //load value T DBW [AR1,P#4.0] //load to nextword Why is 298 multiplied with 16 to make a pointer? and could someone explain the rest a bit for me? kind regards!
