Maximal distance for MPI communication

Meritor Posts: 33 Rating: (2)	Dear Sir, I am going to install 2 Siemens PLCs (CPU314)without DP and Ihave to make signal exchange between them (Global Data Table).I want touse only1 TS adapter for both CPU. The distance between the 2 CPUwill be more than 500m. As I know the limit of the MPI communication without Repeater (6ES7972-0AA01-0XA0) is 100m. What is the maximum number of repeater (as I know it is 9)for MPI communication? What about the baud rate in this case (in case of maximum distance)? Is there any table which show me how to change the baud rate according to the distance? Or I can use 187,5 kb/s for 1000 m as well. Can I use the TS adapter in this case? Is there any limitation of using TS adapter in the MPI communication? (Baud Rate?,distance?) Can you confirm that the repeater (order number is above) is Ok for the MPI communication? Thanks in Advance!

Denilson Pegaia Platinum Member Joined: 9/23/2005 Last visit: 4/21/2025 Posts: 4406 Rating: (1480)	Hi, With MPI/DP interfaces you can reach 1000m in 187,5 Kbits without repeater (MPI/DP interfaces are isolated). With MPI or PPI interfaces you can reach only 50m (MPI or PPI interfaces aren't isolated). However the maximal distance is also a function of the bauld rate. With just one paar repeater you can reach 1000m in 187.5 kbits (sufficient for your application). With 12Mbits the maximal distance is 100m. You can access a table in the specification of the repeater (IK PI 2005 catalogue page 5/47 – www.siemens.com/simatic/printmaterial ).You can use his TS Adapter without problem.
