Maximum Number of Panels on a S7-31x-2 PN/DP

GeHe001 Posts: 34 Rating: (0)	Hi all, We're planning a project that uses up 20 (maybe more in the future) Panels - TP177 4" Color PN/DP. We'd like to connect them all to 1 controller (S7-31x or WinAC), using profinet for communication with the PLC. Looking at the PLC specs, there are several types of communications functionsthat all have a different number of max. connections. eg. CPU 315-2 PN/DP -Open IE-Max. Connections: 8 - Number of usable OP Connection: 15 - Profinet CBA: NA for TP177 - 2nd Interface as Profinet IO Controller - Max. Connectable IO Devices: 128 Is it possible to connect up to 128 Panels onto this CPU or is it restricted to 8 or 15 Panels? willan Lean CP card give me the possibility to extend this amount of connectable Panels. jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (308)	Hello, The 315 has 16 S7-resources. One is for the PG, the remaining could be spend formax 15 OPs. Another point is that the operating system of the CPU300 has to handle all these S7-requests, with a max % of cycle timeset in the HWConfig of the CPU.And for a given connection you will have, I guess, only a few jobs done each cycle. And the way an OP is programmed (for instance variables coming from tags grouped inone DB, or coming from severalDBs) influences also the performance (one or several jobs required). So for a large amount of OPs, I am afraid that the refresh time will be too slow to be practical. Tell us why you need such alarge amount of panels. Is a wireless panel an option (you take it with you)?

GeHe001 Posts: 34 Rating: (0)	Hi EDR, the installation were working on will be implemented into an ANDON system. a TP will be placed on several places into each production line. The display will have a few buttons, each button represents a specific person (technician, shiftleader, ...). By using the button that specific person will receice a text message on there mobile. The PLC will only be used for the panels, it will generate a string depening on wich button is pushed and send it to another PC over TCP/IP, so the refresh time will not such a problem. Grtz, HG

GeHe001 Posts: 34 Rating: (0)	Hi, 1- Wenn I'm correct, the CP342-5 can only be used with Profibus networks not with profinet, or can it? 2- nice option, the only problem i might see, is that smart access duplicates a panel. This also means that in the PLC I can't see wich panel has been used. The idea was that each button on each panel has it specific text message to send. Using Smartaccess, we will have a seperate message per button but for each panel. Am i right?
