Hello preyas; When you say "field devices", do you mean instruments, as on a Profibus-PA subnetwork, or any Profibus-DP node (drives, distributed IO nodes, CPUs...)? Profibus-DP allows up to 125 nodes on a network, including masters, HMIs, and "field devices", with segments of 32 nodes connected by repeaters. Profibus-PA is based on the FISCO (explosion-proof) model, and the current available in EX and non-EX zones determines the number of instruments that can be connected to a loop. For EX zones, a general rule of thumb is a maximum of 10 instruments per loop, for non-EX it can go up to 24. The following presentation (from profibus.com) will show you the basics of Profibus communications: http://www.profibus.com/nc/downloads/downloads/profibus-technology-and-application-system-description/display/ If you go to Profibus.com/Downloads, you will find many documents giving more detailed information on planning, installing and commissioning a Profibus -DP or -PA network. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
