MB_Client version 3.1 block to read address, but getting error code 8381

I'm trying to talk a S7-1200 1214C with Toshiba drives via Modbus TCP through the CLP Profinet port. The Modbus addresses of these inverters are in the extended area. For example, the inverter status word is at address 64770 (FD01h + 1). When I prepare the MB_Client version 3.1 block to read at this address, I get error code 8381 = Function code is not supported, as if the parameters were not interpreted as function 03 = reading holding registers of Modbus. In the same network, with Weg inverters, with addresses within the Modbus low range (40000 to 49999) the same block operates well. Do I have to pass to MB_Client version 4.0 or is it another problem? Jay. Posts: 1283 Rating: (105)	You can check on MB Clieny instructions properties for the mB code and MB address range supported. I think your MB address is not right for that MB mode. From your info, this is Profinet port so be carefully, maybe Modbus isn't supported here. You wasting time if you don't check this for first.

From your info, this is Profinet port so be carefully, maybe Modbus isn't supported here. You wasting time if you don't check this for first. Well Duris, error 8381 states that an exception telegram was received. That means that the connection is established and the frames meet the Modbus specification. No need to worry about the port or the protocol in use. @ Cgottberg Are you sure that function code 3 should be used for the status word? Regards, Kaulquappe

I don't know about that Toshiba so gived only sugestion. But due that error it looks like as you've mentioned.

Toshiba E6582125 manual "VF-AS3 Embedded Ethernet Function Guide" page 23 Modbus TCP.: Support for modbus functions: 0x03,0x06, 0x10, 0x17, 0x2B. With the generic ModScan client works well Commands to start / stop, speed reference and status. With MB_Client, I get error 8381. Why would it be? There is an alternative setting up some parameters like comm IO. but needs the Modbus function 0x17. MB_client does not accept Modbus 0x17. Attachment toshiba 1.png (871 Downloads)

Siemens specification differ to general MB FC codes. I recommend read next page of that System manual (your picture) where is table how set correct MODE value depended to general MB FC. Check how can you set via MODE value and MB_DATA_ADDR your requested data. This is your solution.

Jay. Posts: 1283 Rating: (105)	Hi, Just to check. Can you share the Mods can screenshot of the received data and addressing. What I think is that you are using the wrong addressing format. When you define the mode in MB mode, there is no need of 4 in front of your address. To verify the exact addressing, please share the modscan screenshot. Just my suggestion. Hope you don't mind.
