MD741 & CPU 315F

Cheetos Experienced Member Joined: 7/8/2009 Last visit: 9/20/2022 Posts: 56 Rating: (0)	I'm Having a Project including CPU315F & MD741 GPRS Modem I have organized the DB's by the simatic manager the only step left is to send the DB's to the GPRS modem, i tried to use the net work configurator and Created an ethernet connection with the CPU But i Couldn't find the MD741 in the catalog please advice me how to connect the CPU to the modem to send the DB's Thanks

jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, The MD 741 is modem/router (not only a modem between ethernet and GPRS). It routes packets to the internet like nay other router when the packets are intended for a target in the Internet, but over GPRS (which is a wireless network connected to Internet). You do not send the DBs to the MD741, but to a target system (like another PLC or a PC) connected to the Internet. For the CU315F, the MD 741 is just the default gateway andbehaves just like any other router. Normally the MD741 builts a VPN tunnel, for instance with a Scalance S612. Once the tunnel establisched, it is juts like it doesn't exist for your 315F. In Step7 you configure connections just like the MD740 wouldn't exist (execpeted that you configure the CPU315F to use a router which is the IP address of the MD741 on Ethernet). For the connection with CPU, you need ethernet interface for remote monitoring. jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, As I told before, the MD741 is transparent once configured, and doesn't play a role in the needed components for the overall communication. We still don't know what device is the communication partner of the 315F in your configuartion. If it is a PC, than you should install Simatic Net on that PC, allowing the PC to communicate with the 315F (over an S7 connection for instance). If you want to animate pictures on a PC, you could install WinCC to display some information. With recent versions of WinCC, the driver for S7 conenctions is part of the WinCC installation, and in that case, you don't need to install Simatic Net separatly. On the other hand, GPRS communication is mostly expensive (compared to other means). SoI wouldn't connect permanently a visualization to the 315F through an MD741 without analyzing carefuly the generated data volume generated (the risk of high data volumes at the end of the month is real, and may be expensive trough GPRS).
