Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP)

Raednabeel Posts: 96 Rating: (7)	Hello Everybody, I need your support regarding an ethernet ring, if it will work or not. The ring will be built using twisted pair cables between these elements : 1. SCALANCE X-414 3E . Note that from this manual at 3.2.5 it was mentioned that this module supports "MRP" 2. CP 443-1 . Note that from this manual at 1.3 it was mentioned that this module supports "MRP" See the attached pic. for a simple illustration. My doubts because I have not seen a ring between just two devices, and which one will play the "Redundancy Manager" role, and how to make the configuration to disable the redundancy manger in CP 443-1. Please if there are other limitations and notes on this pleas tell me. I will be grateful for any comment or suggestion BR Attachment Ethernet Ring.Zip (743 Downloads)

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well, you are right. In case you use the latest CP 443-1 and the latest version of the SCALANCE X414-3E you are able to use the MRP protocol. This is all possible at the condition that you use a redundant ring structure. Your CPU needs torun at leastaFirmware of theversion 5.2. Both the CP and the SCALANCE need to be configured in redundancy mode and the used interfaces need to be set to be used in redundancy. Well... if all this is done it should work, even if you run it only in line mode. Sadly your drawing is not useable because it is not available at the server, maybe you can add another one to check. Best regards J_Bell I am so sorry for that , but yes I can open it, then I supposed that others can do it. What happend was I changed the extension of the file , because ".rar" extension is not allowed in this forum. Any way I think this simple pic will not change any thing, especially I can see from your post that you can understand me. Let me ask you again where or How I can make the configuration you talked about.

Binuxxx Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hello, As I saw last year I have done something similar. It was really problematic because of the earlier firmwares, but after some upgrade steps it works fine. We also tested the ring redundancy function, but it was a bit higher, about 1500 msecs - but it is not important in our solution. We also tested it with X204 switch. The switchover time was really about 300 msecs, but we have noticed that the Isochrone mode prohibited in the MRP ring. But we also noticed an another limitation. Each modules could be a part of just one redundant ring. It is a strange limitation, because in many cases customer wants to serarate by functionality the main communication ring - which is mainly optical - from the other functions. But the equipments in these separated functions also have to be communicating redundantly - in a subring, probably. So it seems, there isn't possible to build ring hierarchy. If You have any guesses, please send me - this time I am working on it. J.

The only thing is that HSR is only supported by network components (switches, media converters) and not by end devices.
