PCBuctot Posts: 24 Rating: (3)	Hi to all, I have some questions regarding the CPU memory cards: 1. When you download a program to the CPU (let say S7-300 and 400) with the memory card inserted, does it go directly to the memory card or you have to manually input it to the memory card? 2. What does the "copy Ram to ROM" do? Ive read that if there is a memory card in the CPU and you perform the "Copy Ram to Rom", it will copy the data from the CPU memory to the Memory card. 3. For example i took out the memory card from the CPU and turn off the PLC, and then I inserted again the Memory card and turn on the system, does the PLC automatically reads the data from the Memory Card after doing the Cold restart? 4. Is it possible to access the Memory Card using an ordinary laptop? or does it need a PG? I learned that the format it uses is different compared to the usual memory cards.. Sorry if i have so many questions in mind regarding the MMC. Actually Ive been programming for the past few years but I haven't paid that much attention to the Memory Card until now. Thanks, PCBuctot

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 10/4/2024 Posts: 3024 Rating: (1054)	Hello PCBuctot first of all, here are some brief answers to your questions, please note that all answers relate to usage of an MMC (i.e. S7 300 usage): 1.) You always and only donwload into the MMC, the OS then automatically "grabs" whaever it needs and copies into its internal RAM (as a matter of fact, you won;t be able to download at all if you do NOT have an MMC in the CPU) 2.)Copy RAM to ROM is NOTapplicable for CPU's with MMC (it can only be used for older type S7 300's with thelarger Flash memory cards). 3.) It does (which makes CPU replacement very easy) 4.) You MUST use a PG or external Siemens USB Prommer (never ever use a "normal"card reader for S7 300 type MMC's) Additional collated detailed info is availble at the links below: S7 300 Memory Cards S7 400 Memory Cards I hope this helps

If i have read it right, you need to manually transfer the program to the MC (s7-400). I followed your link to the S7-400 MC and here is what ive found out: *"Instructions:* You can proceed as follows when you load the user program to a FLASH card: Switch the mode selector of the CPU to STOP. Slot the FLASH card into the CPU (or the MC is already slotted). Do an overall reset of the CPU. Load the user program with STEP 7: Mark "Blocks" in your project. Via "PLC" -> "Load user program to memory card" you save the program to the MC. Using the FLASH card you can only reload your complete user program." Does this apply to both CPU with no existing MC and CPU with MC slotted already? The one we are working already has an MC slotted but our costumer told us that there was no program backup in the MC. Do I really need to do an overall reset of the CPU in order to save my program to the MC or there is an alternate way? Can I just switch the selector switch to STOP and do the PLC>download user program to Memory card (without the reset)? We dont have a PG and the USB prommer so the only thing we can do is to connect directly to the CPU. Thanks again, PCBuctot
