Micro master 420 programming help

Hello everyone, 

My question has probably been answered in a previous topic but I will ask again anyway. I have no experience with controlling Siemens drives through the PLC.

So I want to control a micro master 420 drive with a s7-300 (315-2/DP CPU) through a profibus network. Is the programming done through simatic v5.5 professional that I am using or does this require separate PC softwate? I am only doing basic operations with the drive like starting, stopping, controlling frequency and outputting the actual frequency. 

If anyone could post links to any helpful PDF’s or manuals that may help me with programming, that would be great.

Hello David;

Your CPU has an integrated Profibus port, it can easily be setup as a Profibus-DP master.

You will need a Profibus Option board mounted on the MM420 to act as a Profibus slave.

You do not need any additional software for this application; only a bit of reading...

I suggest you start your program with the examples for Load/Transfer instructions (from the link above) they are much simpler than using SFC14/SFC15 and will work well for a simple application as you described. If you need something more complex, have a look at this sample program:

You will also fnd many discussions on the subject in the forum, just use the Search box at the top right of this page to locate "MM4 Profibus" for example.

  does it seem like you want to extract the program from Zip right? save it in the PC then with STEP7 open and then browse and find the location where you saved. Or have you tried with File --> dearchive? Or

Yeah Ste, If you open that link in my last post you will see some zip files. All I need to do is open them and see what the program looks like to help me program my own.

Can I open the zip folder on Step7 without having to unzip the file? I have never used zip files before.

User need to unzip files i.e. extarct those & then with appropriate software (in your case with Step 7 project) can open the file/project.
