Migrating installation from 0BA7 to 0BA8

PNovak Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	hi all, I have an existing installation based on 230RCE 0BA7 and I would like to update the base module to 0BA8 to take advantage of the built-in web server. I have downloaded the manuals both for the Logo 8 devices as well as the Logo!Soft Comfort 8. From reading the manuals, it seems that the Logo 8 base modules will NOT work with the existing extension modules. This seems to be the first time Siemens has dropped this kind of compatibility. Would someone please confirm I am understanding this correctly. I would expect the new extension modules (0BA2) not to work with the older base modules, but is it really the case the older modules cannot be used with the new base module? There seems to be a workaround by making the whole existing installation a 0BA7 slave and to make the new 0BA8 a master and to handle all the inputs and outputs on the old expansion modules as network inputs and outputs, but this means to modify the whole circuit. So this will take some time and effort to convert the existing circuit. That is why I would much prefer to simply swap the base module for the new one. Sorry if this was a FAQ, but I have not found an answer to this question. Thanks. Petr

The possibility that (with its expansion modules) to network with the 0BA7 0BA8 is available and so far the only way to use the old hardware.

For the same reason I would not recommend you base a full design on the OBA8 yet. As you now know the OBA8 is not compatible with previous versions. I rather like your work around.. although I would use the OBA8 as "data server" and not as control master. Again out of personal choice: as to be able to pop out the OBA8 from the system without effecting the control system - becuase the OBA8 has not yet proved itself (to me). Another thing to consider is using an S7-1200 (CPU1221C) as a data server - but again that works for me as I work with S7-1200 PLCs. I hope my thoughts help you decide to what YOU want to do. PNovak Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Another thing to consider is using an S7-1200 (CPU1221C) as a data server - but again that works for me as I work with S7-1200 PLCs. This is a home use system to control some stuff around a private swimming pool. So cost is an important factor. The current config is 230RCE + DM16 + DM8 + AM2 + AM2 RTD, so migrating to 0BA8 would effectively mean starting from scratch, with no way to re-use the existing modules. With the networked config, my cost would be just the additional 0BA8 230RCE basic module. I can see that the 0BA8 can talk to another master Logo (which was not possible on the 0BA7) and that the other system can also be a 0BA7 system. So this seems to suggest that I would not have to change the current circuit. However, there is a lot of user interface using the ESC+Cursor keys and built-in text display (I use a trick with the shift register to make this kind of own menu system) and this is what I would love to make available to the web client. And for that, the system would have to be running on the 0BA8 module to make those available, or a "wrapper" would have to be done to mirror all of that on the 0BA8. Actually, it may be less work than changing to the slave mode, I would have to try it out on a small subset of the existing solution.

There is some German Language posts handling home automation where the guys work via mobile devices to link to their LOGO V7's @190B: Please can you give this gentleman some help on where to look for? I think I needs to links his mobile device to his OBA7. w

PNovak Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi, yes, I am aware of the Logo! app, but my understanding is that it can only display stuff, not to make any input. Perhaps I am wrong on this. What I would like is to see the content of the display (text) and be able to enter the ESC+Cursor keys (short and long presses) - and that seems to be available in the 0BA8. My UI/HMI on the Logo built-in display is that I have 16 screens which I can walk with ESC-C-Left and ESC-C-Right. In each screen, I have up to 4 functions (short ESC-C-Up, long ESC-C-Up, ...) to control the items currently visible on the screen (like turning a function on or off or increasing or decreasing a value). The idea is that this shall be simple enough that my kids and wife are able to operate it. For status only screens (no user control), I can just press Up and Down to walk the messages by priority. I would like to be able to use the same screens and control remotely from a PC or a phone (with a password protection, but a VPN could do the trick as well, so the password is not essential, as I do not think the 0BA7 supports any authentication). The remote access MUST support the input. I do not think the Logo! App allows to do this, but I might be wrong. But I am ceratin the 0BA8 can do this after reading the manuals earlier today. I could duplicate the whole UI with a dedicated app and use the Snap7 library to pull data out of the Logo and push inputs in parallel to the Cursor keys, but I was looking for something simpler than that (the cost of my time to develop the app seems higher than the cost of the new 0BA8 basic module, but possibly not than the cost of replacing all the modules).
