I suggest exporting some similar HMI tags from your V15+ project and compare the headers from the WinCC 7.4 export and the V15 WinCC export.

Reconcile what is missing.

If the HMI tags are HMI only, are you wanting to send the "current" value as the initial value in the V15 HMI project?

I am trying to migrate a bunch of tags of a WinCC 7.4 project to TIA Portal v15.

From the WinCC 7.4 project I was able to export the tags to an xlsx file.
I have adapted a few columns to the new format, but it seems there are other things that I bet I am missing.

For example, in WinCC 7.4 I have a tag with a start value of "Step 20 Standby {function_CountUP(StandbyMax_T_Act,1,Pulse_1min)} {BackwashFSP := 0.0} {FB_T_Act := 0} {FFB1_T_Act := 0} {BWB_T_Act := 0} {FT_T_Act := 0} {FFT1_T_Act := 0} {BWT_T_Act := 0} {RT_T_Act := 0}" which such start value gets lost once it is imported in TIA Portal v15.

This project has more than 15k internal tags, so it is critical that I can export them via excel file.

Any ideas are appreciated

If a tag is in the PLC and the HMI, the start values should be in the PLC.  If a tag is only in the HMI, that can be a problem to assign start values because the HMI does not have DBs with start values like the PLC does with DBs.

Does that help you understand my comment about "HMI only" tags?

To me, there are several phases to importing tags between non TIA Portal's WinCC and V1x+ WinCC.

Phase 1: Export HMI tags to excel

Phase 2: Import HMI tags to Portal Project

Phase 3: Export HMI tags to excel to a different excel file

Phase 4: Edit HMI tag details in excel

Phase 5: If there are "current values" in the phase 1 export, copy those values to the newly edited phase 4 HMI tags

Phase 6: Import HMI tags from latest excel file

Repeat phases 3-6 as needed to refine the tags

Document any shortcuts that can be done in the original WinCC 7.4 project's HMI tags that might make it easier and try again if not done.

There are probably simpler ways, but with realistic legacy data and classical ways of thinking, it might take all those steps to become satisfied with the results and level of control with the data export/import process.

Yes. I started with the "easy" tags (internal ones). I have compared headers and been loading different scenarios and see how the importation goes.
When you say that tags are "hmi only" do you mean the option of "Settings/Update/Local HMI device"?

In "wincc columns adaptation.png" the columns marked on yellow is the data that I am importing. But not all the tags are being saved with the "start value" value accordingly. Log file is not that helpful!

*** NOTE: All internal tags declared as WString are 255 in length. Start value on designer shows 128 length max. Could this be an issue when I am trying to import long texts?

I am using TIA Portal Version V15.1 Update 2.
