amsd, I opened your project with Step 7 V5.5 SP1 and successfully compiled the Hardware Config. I migrated the project with Step 7 V11 SP2 UPD3. The project migrated successfully and the Hardware compiled successfully. Attached is the V11 project. Good Luck billwest

amsd, I apologize that I do not have a verifiable answer. I have duplicated what you are seeing. I updated to V11 SP2 UPD4 without any change in what you are seeing. It does not matter whether the modules after 31 are analog or digital. I used the ET200 Configurator to verify your configuration. The power budget is set to 50% for the PME modules. The section with 5 8DO modules exceeded the 50% limit but that is not cause for an error. With the hardware loaded to PLCSim, and going Online, the device configuration shows a difference between the offline modules and the online modules. Since there are any online modules that is not surprising. In Step 7 V5.5 SP1, when I go online with PLCSIM, the modules are all green. However, if you select one module, the system says it doesn't know what the module is. Just like V11. What is surprising is you do not get the error with less than 32 modules. At the same time mousing over the local modules in the Project tree produces a popup that says "No Fault". Also logic that I wrote was properly executed by the PLCSIM based on triggering an input and seeing the output come on. I think this is an undocumented feature in TIA Portal. I hope this is helpful billwest
