Migration (upgrade) from PCS 7 V6.1 to V8.0 or higher

Rojas17 Posts: 19 Rating: (1)	Hello everyone! I would like to get some help with a migration or upgrade from PCS 7 version 6.1.1, we need to migrate to PCS7 Version 8.0 or higher. I would like to know if this is possible at all, I have seen in most of forums that there is an upgrade from V6.1 to V7.1 and then you can go ahead and upgrade to V8.0 or higher. Can you please provide me of some information related to?, Is there any guide or manual that can help me to do this?, I mentioned this becasue I would like to know if there is any restriction or warning I have to keep in mind at the time of making the upgrade/migration. Can you please provide me of some info? Thank you in advance for any feedback. Best regards.

Yoga Shankar Posts: 288 Rating: (22)	The migration of PCS7 versions does not have any specific tool for say from Version x.m to y.n..... You will have to study the versions of the DotNet Framework, SQL server and the Windows patches, and determine the sequence of migration. From V6.1.1 you will have to migrate to say V6.x (x>1) if any of the above mentioned software component versions change. from there you will have to migrate V7.x accordingly. from there on you can migrate to higher versions. In each step, you need to have the later version installed in a PC. migrate the OS project components using the WinCC "Project Migrator" tool available in the standard installation package. Open the project after OS migration in the SIMATIC manager in the new version and open any charts. move any one block around in the chart. thiswill initiate a dialog asking wether you want to change the blocks in the project to the new version. click Yes in the dialog and then compile the project... (first the AS then the OS). follow this procedure for each step of the migration.

You have to do the upgrade procedure according to the possible steps (e.g. 6.1 > 7.1 > 8.0). There are manuals available wich are descriping every step you have to do that it finally works. You could always face different issues. So be sure to have a backup of the complete project and all PCs (project backup, harddisk image of the PCs, ...), that you can always go back. The requirement that it works without having problems at all it, that you have done you old PCS 7 project in a proper way (accoring PCS 7 guidlines). If you have done something special (not according to PCS 7 guidelines, its most likely that you will have problems after upgrading, wich will lead to extra work on the project again.
