MiniRanger Plus will not select parameters

rw01 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I was called to troubleshoot a MiniRanger Plus at the customer's business. The unit is displaying level changes but the measurements are off by hundreds of gallons. I tried to access the parameter screens and the unit went into programming mode but will not change parameters. I tried a quick press of the scroll buttons and then tried a longer press, neither would change the parameter. The value in P000 = 1954, just like another unit in the cabinet. This should be unlocked. This MiniRanger Plus is much warmer than the unit that seems to be working well. Is there a work around to make the parameter list scroll as it should, or is this symptomatic of a heat related failure? Is the heat normal or is it being caused by an outside source? One unit actually will not boot and has a partially melted cover. The third (functioning) unit is barely warm.

Toppie Posts: 74 Rating: (3)	Hello rw01 The MiniRanger Plus has been out of production for quite some time. It sounds as if you have a bad contact on one of the keys. Unfortunately this can't be repaired. It is possible to communicate to the device via infra-red with a Dolphin+ Interface. http://www.automation.siemens.com/w1/process-instrumentation-dolphin-plus-10927.htm I would not recommendpurchasing this at this stage as the units seem to be near the end of life. Regarding the error in reading. The Mini+ measures level. The conversion to volume is just mathematics. So the first step is to determine if the level reading is correct. If the keypad were working, you could measure the distance from the face of the transducer to the liquid level by pressing the <enter><up><down> keys all at once. This could then be verified with a physical measurment. Concerning the melted enclosures. The enclosures are made of PVDFwhich hasa melting point of about 165°C. The electronics are rated to 80°C. There is good possibility that there is heat damage. Unfortunately, the only option is replacement with a MultiRanger. Please contact your regional sales office.

rw01 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Thank you. I had assumed that the error could be fixed by measuring and reentering the parameters once I had the units replaced as needed. I will look up the MultiRanger and download the documentation for that. Someone else will be obtaining a quote for replacements. thanks, rw01
