mmcarc.exe issues

mircoaie3 Bronze Member Joined: 10/26/2009 Last visit: 8/2/2023 Posts: 63 Rating: (11)	I've tried to make a S7 Archive in ARC format by selecting the option "SINUMERIK archive (*.arc)" from the Simatic Manager dialog. I've seen that this option uses an executable ("mmcarc.exe"), located in the "Siemens\Step7\S7BIN" folder, but I've not found any documentation about this tool. My goal is to be able to create a "partial" PLC archive (for example containing only one or two modified FC blocks) for sending to the customer, for example, a patch or a software upgrade. The .ARC file created by the tool contains the instructions for clearing the PLC memory, re-load all the blocks and perform a power-on reset. Is there a method for don't clear the PLC memory and overwrite only the wanted blocks? I've seen that in the "Siemens\Step7\S7BIN"folder there is a "mmcarc.ini" file; it is possible to edit it with a text-editor and modify the line "Expert=0" into "Expert=1". With this modification the mmcarc dialog shows more options: [_] without PLC Clear Command [_] with PLC Startup Command [_] Blockoverwrite in PLC I've tried to create various archives with all the possible combinations of flags: The first option flag ("without PLC Clear Command") does not seem to work at all (the .ARC files created with or without the flag are identical). The second option flag ("with PLC Startup Command") seems to work: the .ARC file created WITH the flag checked contains in addition the instruction "_NC_ACT.DIR\@@_N_PLC_START" The third option flag ("Blockoverwrite in PLC") seems to work exactly like the second option flag. For making a "partial archive" I expected to need the following configuration: [X] without PLC Clear Command [_] with PLC Startup Command [X] Blockoverwrite in PLC but the .ARC file created, when loaded in to the NC; produces the PLC memory clearing: it clears ALL block and then loads in to the PLC only the blocks I've archived, so the PLC does not work! If I open the .ARC file with SinuCom ARC and then I save the file specifying as SYF file "PLCminusReset.syf", I obtain a .ARC file that does not produce the initial memory cleaning, but in this manner it does not load in to the PLC the blocks (it says "skipped" for all the block, It seems that it cannot overwrite them...). Can anyone explain to me this behaviour? Can anyone provide me a manual or techical documentation about the use of this tool? Can anyone explain to me how to create a partial PLC archive for overwriting only some blocks and without the crearing of all the memory? Thanks in advance.

Normal 0 21 false false false FR-CH X-NONE X-NONE With Step 7 I make an .ARC file. After I open the .ARC file with SinuCom ARC and then I save the file specifying as SYF file "PLCminusReset.syf", I obtain a .ARC file that does not produce the initial memory cleaning. but in this manner the existing blocks are not overwrite... ...and the same question Can anyone explain to me this behaviour? I do not remember exactly how, but in the end I was able to create the "partial archive", maybe using this file ... I hope this could help you Bye (Please let me know if it works...)
